GNC employees and the sales of protein drinks

A buddy of mine just went into GNC and bought a little puuch carton drink called "muscle milk" and consumed it before we both hit the weights (I think it's made by nestle or hershey's?). 19g of fat, 7 grams of saturated fat (it's like a chocolate milk drink). I'm trying to tell him GNC employees work on commission (don't they?) and the drink has too much fat in it. Yes, it has 30 grams of protein but way too much fat and calories.

I am correct, right? He's 185 5'10 so he's not the skinniest guy in the world. The guy at GNC told him to take it right before the weight workout and to take something else right after.

Am I missing something here, or is this not the smartest choice to make?

Thanks.
