Question Ab Workouts Do NOT Cause Stomach Fat Loss?

Ab Workouts Do Not Cause Stomach Fat Loss

This is certainly news to me. I always thought ab workouts did lose belly fat. But when someone like Michael Geary who authored "The Truth about Six-Pack Abs" says No, you can't argue. He does give some tips though.

What do you guys say? I would really love to hear your views on this topic bcoz I myself need some guidelines on losing stomach fat.

"Unfortunately, ab-specific workouts do NOT burn fat off of your belly. They only tone and strengthen the underlying abdominal muscles. What you really need to focus on is a full body strategic workout that will cause a much greater metabolic rate increase and fat-burning hormonal response from your training program as a whole.

In addition, simply doing cardiovascular workouts will not necessarily create the greatest metabolic response or hormonal response either. What you really need is a much more rounded training program that focuses on training the entire body with resistance training and multi-joint exercises in a higher intensity fashion.

A much smarter full body resistance training routine and a clean healthy balanced diet are the most important factors. Many of the full body exercises also indirectly work the abdominals and core due to the stabilization required in some of the more difficult variations.
"

That summarizes it perfectly. I don't think yuo will find anyone here who will disagree with anything in the above excerp from that article.

Everybody is looking for the perfect exercsie routine, but the most important factors in progress are: NUTRITION, REST and CONSISTANCY.

After that the best exercises are the ones that have been around forever: basic heavy compound exercises: squat, deadlift, military press, pullup, bent row, bench press. Nobody has invented any new exercises or machines that are better than these.

I think the quote above posted by dswithers is spot on! Another really important factor is diet. A really clean high protein diet that is low in saturated fats and refined sugars is key to zapping fat in trouble areas. That jumps ramps up the effectiveness of your workouts, whether cardio or strength training.

I have read about this before. I also read that the abs and around the belly in general is where the body prefers to store fat first. It was explained that because the body stores fat as an energy reserve it does this in the most effecient way so the extra weight can be carried with the least amount of energy expended. The waist is just that area. Hence the waist is also the last place a person will loose their fat reserves. So while doing a lot of ab exercises is a nice try at a nice six pack I think the truth is that you need to really have a very small % of overall body fat to be successful.
