% Body Fat vs Weight Lost?

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this question, but here it goes...

Has anyone come across any research that indicates what is the relationship between %-age body fat lost and actual weight lost?

I am asking because if someone is trying to lose weight (or get healthier) is it a good idea to set a goal for both - weight and body fat %? Or should they stick to one only?

I am currently doing some research on my own too, but I wanted to see if anyone has already got some info, or experiences they can share?

Thanks in advance
P.S. If I'm not making full sense pls ask me questions to clarify...

other than not wanting to have too much weight on your bones (too much weight for what your bones are made to handle can obviously be damaging to them) I don't see why anyone would care what their weight was...all that is important really in that respect is bf %..i don't know, what does everyone else think?/

Body fat percentage is more important for most people, although it is harder to measure consistently and accurately.

Weight can be important in the following situations:

a. Underweight (body mass index < 19) or close to underweight, in which case, weight loss typically should be avoided (if body fat is too high, a situation commonly called "skinny fat", gaining muscle is usually the desired way to try to remedy that situation).

b. Participation in sports or other activity where weight is important (e.g. weight classes for rowers, wrestlers, etc.).

c. Unexplained weight gain or loss may be the result of something to see a doctor for.
