Push ups ( A question )

As of lately i began doing a lot of pushups again. Within the last month my chest has increased about half a inch ( thx to playing cards for push ups in my class ). Now heres the question : Only the upper area of my chest has increased. The bottom hasnt increased at all ( which makes my chest look awkward ). Is this because im doing my push ups wrong? My hands are placed at my neck to face (vertical wise). Should i just lower the placement of my palm so that its at my chest or shoulder or is this just how my body is? i didnt know who to ask so i decided to look up a fitness forum and here i am. My push up looks fairly correct. i really dont know what to do

Its because of the area of your chest your working on. If you were to go into a gym some good flat bench and decline would even it out.
