| | | You don't have to tell me... I am a BIG fan of yoga. Like the OP wrote, it helps the mind/body/and soul. I wished that I had started yoga in my early 20's.
Love yoga!!! I am loving it, feeling it... Been practacing it for over a year now. If you do try yoga, try to attend 5 classes with varying instructors. Each one brings a different flow/style to the class AND it takes a few class to get the flow decently down. |

I think yoga education is really nice. Many benefits of yoga education. Yoga is non-competitive; everyone progresses at their own rate. Yoga poses are an activity that can be done individually or in a group setting..... |

| | | For all those yoga haters out there...take a intermediate/advanced yoga class and tell me it's not challenging...I dare you.
I, too, once shrugged off yoga as being a minuscule type of fitness. But I became involved in yoga classes this summer and I immediately began to love it! I love how it it really is challenging for your muscles and body, and it encourages you to focus and generate mental strength to balance in a difficult pose. It feels really redeeming too. I actually bought some yoga dvds for at home use too.
A lot of people end up discovering yoga looking for a way to exercise after an injury or with back problems. I am very flexible, but for some reason, I have an irritable sciatica. It runs in the family. A few times in the last year I got a pinch nerve in my sciatica (where it runs through my butt) after doing high reps of lunges and squats with weight, without stretching prior. It is the most obnoxious, irritating feeling. It really feels like something was pinching (hence the name-pinch nerve) tightly in my inner glute muscles. Now, I like to do some lower body yoga stretches using my dvds before I do intense strength training, and it really helps. |
