Smile Toning/bulking up?

Hi, i have not trained for a few years and starting to get back into it as i seem to have a bit of a belly now, and def not as fit as i was. My hobby may seem sporty, but doesn't help fitness level at all really.
Anyways, I'm not going to be joining a gym just yet. I happy and able to go running and i have a small sit up bench.
Can you lovely guys (and girls) advise me on how to bulk up my upper body (pec's/shoulders/arms) whilst toning my stomach?

A

I take it you don't have any weights. In that case, numerous variations of pushups and pullups would be your best bet along with running.

However, you really can't bulk up your upper torso while losing weight around the midsection. At least not very effectively. To get the best results, you need to do one then the other. Your height/weight and your personal goals will probably dictate which you should do first. Read the stickys in the nutrition forum, your diet will be a huge determining factor.

Also, if you want to gain some serious muscle, you'll probably need to join a gym or get some weights at some point.

Agreed on all points. Sounds like dropping the weight is your main goal. If I were in your position, I'd get my hands on some weights, optimally, and begin a lifting routine (this absolutely MUST include your legs). You can help keep your diet in check using Fitday or some other tools.

Like evan said, since you'll be in a calorie deficit, you probably won't build a ton of muscle at this time. Once you hit a weight you like, you can build your body back up with muscle instead of fat.

Sounds simple, but plan on being in it for the long haul, not just a couple of months.

Good luck.

Weight is not an issue at all.
It's more that I would like to get rid of the belly that I have gained, and toned it up. Also wanting to add to my pec's/shoulder/arms. If i have to concentrate one one area at a time i shall do.
