The girls in my gym would have thought you were on crystal meth, put you in a straightjacket and given you a nice ride to a really pretty room and given you free drugs

Your sex life would have picked up exponentially

Just 3 girls and Lei. We'd make you feel a whole lot better, but only if you made animal noises and sang at the top of your lungs

Then we'd take you back to the gym so you could finish your work out

We don't use a straightjacket on Tom, though. We usually just wrap him up in velcro so the sheep stick to him a lot better

1. Train, train train
2. Chronic knee injury (stupid knee)
3. Hardly... I particularly despise it when people bug me while I'm working out, unless it's to ask for a spotter.

One thing that I have noticed in a gym is that most of the women there fall into a stereotype:

1. Most do only cardio.
2. Many do cardio at a low intensity. (so-called "fat burning zone"?)
3. Rarely or never use the weight equipment. (don't want to get "too big"?)
4. Those doing something other than cardio are doing abdominal exercises only, usually dozens of crunches, or using the abdominal weight machine at a low weight setting. (trying to "spot reduce"?)

Yep. It's the same thing at the gym I go to. Women seem to have this bizarre idea that if they pick up a dumbbell, they'll instantaneously look like a male bodybuilder. So they walk or jog for hours on the treadmill or elliptical, maybe use the stairmaster for 4 minutes, etc. but they won't touch a weight (and they won't touch the rowing machine, either).

If they do touch weights, you can bet it's under 10 pounds and coated in purple or pink plastic. And that's for the heavy duty workout

If they use the machines, it's for circuit training only and it's at minimal resistance with extremely high reps. Then they'll jump on the bicycle at the lowest resistance level and pedal for 30 seconds, then go onto another circuit machine and repeat. Rinse and repeat. Rinse and repeat.

The thing is, you can't tell these women anything. They'll ask questions, get answers, and then keep doing what they did before and wonder why they aren't losing any weight.

1 - I go to get in shape/stay in shape - really enjoy the break from a regular day and some time by myself.

2 - schedule changes and travel will keep me out of there. Going to the gym is now a lifestyle for me so if I miss a day it isn't the end of the world. I do hate to miss a day when I am in a good routine though.

3 - I talk to some people there, made some friendships, but not at all why I go. I like to get to business.

4 - I'd say about 50/50 guys and girls.

There are actually quite a few ladies who will work out pretty hard with the regular free weights. There are a couple of competative bodybuilders and some that compete in "shape shows(?)." They train others who want to get in good shape and they hang out in the freeweights area. It is a big open floorplan too, so there aren't really "sections" so that may make them feel a little more comfortable.

Old thread, so please pardon....

I go to the gym because I wanna get in shape obviously, but I like the fact that it gets me OUT of the house and forces me to work-out. I have an exercise bike at home and I haven't used it in years!

Not necessarily need the social gain - but I enjoy talking to people and getting to know them.

Besides that - there's some nice eye candy at the gym. I am married -but that'll never stop me from enjoying the scenery! Ohhh yeah!!!

Why do you really go to the gym? Get fit for the military
What may stop you going to the gym? Injury.
Is your reason for going a social gain? No.
Do more men or women go to your gym? Both.

No way will I quit the gym

I will not every stop going to the gym unless I become deathly ill. A friend got me into going about 10 years ago, and at that time I wasn''t that into it, but it became a big part of my life. Now I will not allow anyone to sabatoge my workouts, not even my husband. I became certified as a trainer and started a fitness blog so I could be in a fitness environment. I enjoy going to my group training classes because there are other people their who share the same passion as I do.
