As stated in the title, I'm going to run a marathon this summer. I'm not sure how to work up to it, I think I'll add a couple miles to my routine every week. Should I take rest days? And does anyone have any experience with interval training?
Also, is there anything I should know about injury avoidance and overtraining?

I guess this is where I tell you all something about myself. Ok here goes.

I grew up in Bolton (UK). I Joined the British Royal Marines In 2004, I served for 6 years. I left the Royal Marines and set up an outdoor fitness service called Sound Fitness Team Training. I love to teach and I love to learn. My biggest passion of all is my blog, Uniquebootcampworkouts.com | Where bootcamp workouts come alive, I set it up to help personal trainers and group fitness instructors to draw inspirational workout ideas from.

I live in Plymouth (uk) with my wife and step son and we have two small Pug dog's, Chester and Cleo :)

I look forward to meeting you all in the forum.

Hi all,
I happened upon this sight when trying to research my issue. I have been running on and off along with hiking, stairmaster at the gym, etc. Been fine with everything. But last time I ran, an ache started in my left leg/ hip joint. And after finishing (about 5 miles) and sitting down, pain got worse. Hurt getting up out of chair, walking and especially going up stairs. It has gotten better over the next few days, although still dull pain, but concerned now about running again. It is the same route I have run many times. I will also add that my hamstring muscle on that side tends to always be a bit tight.
Any thoughts out there?

Thank you.
