As a rule, I avoid all trans-fat (as well as artificial sweeteners such as splenda and nutrasweet). It isn't good enough to be listed as "0 grams" when partially hydrogenated oil is listed as an ingredient. As a matter of principle, any hydrogenated oil is unacceptable to me. I'm guessing that many if not most people here avoid trans-fat as zealously as I do.

However, what do my fellow trans-fat haters do in social situations? When someone brings in a dessert or appetizer or some other food that you suspect/know to have hydrogenated oil in it and offers you some, do you (1) eat it like everyone else, (2) take some, eat a little, but let most of it go to waste, (3) ask for a tiny piece and eat it (4) ask how it was made/ask if it is hydrogenated oil-free, (5) say "no thanks, I don't eat anything with trans-fat in it" when you know it has trans-fat in it, (6) say "no thanks" without giving a reason, (7) have some other way of dealing with the situation? Naturally, some of these ways of dealing with it are more gracious than others.

(Of course, for those of you who eat only food so ultra-healthy that you reject pretty much any food you don't prepare yourself, this question is pretty much N/A, since I'm guessing you wouldn't consider eating a 100% trans-fat free dessert or appetizer anyway.)

Full time job diet?

To make a long story short, I graduated from college in May and JUST started my career two weeks ago. From May to October I had so much time on my hands that all I did was hit the gym. Now, however, I can't seem to find the time...

After my first two weeks at my new, full-time job, I've only made it to the gym on the weekends. I can't stand the the results I'm already seeing from my time away from the gym. Therefore, I am starting to workout in the mornings before work.

I gotta be on the train by 7:15AM every day which means I need to leave the gym by no later than 7:00AM. My question for you guys is... What is a good diet for this weekly routine?

I never followed a diet before because I was in college and always had time for the gym and was always active. With my new job consuming 12 hours of every day, 7AM - 7PM Monday - Friday, I need a diet to keep me toned, energized and not a FAT ASS.

I am going to hit the gym 4 days a week, Tues/Thurs/Fri/Sat = two muscle groups every workout with 20 mins cardio. On top of that, I take one scoop of phosphagen HP crea tine before and after each workout.

Like I said, I never followed or wanted a diet before but now, I need something sicne I'm sitting at a desk for a majority of my day. I really need your guys advice and would greatly appreciate it. I hope that I have given you all the information you need in regards to my workout regimen and everything else. I am barely 6' tall and barely 175lbs. I do not know my body fat % but it has to be something like 5%-8%.

I do not want to eat anything before my workout since I am NEVER hungry in the morning and plus, I have my crea tine powder/water supplement. I was thinking of having some kind of pro tein shake after my workout and after the post crea tine supplement around 8am to act as my breakfast. What about lunch? Should I eat something between lunch and the breakfast shake? I eat lunch from 12pm - 1pm. I dont get home till about 7PMish which is when I eat dinner. Can I have a another shake between lunch and dinner? I eat dinner as soon as I get home so normally no later than 8pm (I know, that's late but there's nothing I can do). Should I have anything else right before bed or after my 8pm dinner?

Lastly... I have two supplements that I have straight up never opened/used. They are both BSN products, the one is Syntha-6 and the other is a Lean Dessert pro tein shake. Can I incorporate these into my new diet by any chance?

GUYS, THANK YOU SO MUCH AND SORRY FOR THE VERBOSE POSTING, i sincerely apologize but really look forward to your input. Thanks again!!!

Just wondering what healthy drinks people like besides just lame ass water. Also i was trying to search for the "FRS" thread so i could read it. I couldnt find it in the search so can someone point me in the right direction as to where it is or tell me if its healthy enough and gives a pick me up.

I ask because im trying to find a decent alt. drink instead of drinking water and getting bored and dehydrated. Also looking for a pick me up drink that i can drink mid afternoon and right before my workout so i can be motivated to go.

I am not looking for coffee as a pick me up. Straight black coffee is to bitter to me and i just want to avoid putting "bad" stuff in coffee to be able to drink it so i want to avoid it at all costs which is why i brought up FRS. Thank you.

This is going to be long im sorry just need some advice to keep this diet or to toss it, substitute some things or whatever the case may be.

Breakfast (wake up 9:30 pm, ya i said PM i work nights lol)

Serving of Kashi Almond flax cereal
serving of 2% milk
Some type of fruit
1 a day ENERGY multivitamin

Lunch (1-1:30 am)

A sandwhich on a white sub roll (roughly 5-6 in.) with 5 or 6 pieces of honey baked ham from the deli, lettcue, mustard
a 100 calorie pack of goldfish

OR

Chicken salad. Chicken grilled on foreman grill (4-6 oz), 2 1/2 cups of salad, 5 olives, 5 croutons, sometimes 1/4 cup of cheddar cheese, 2 TBSP of Italian dressing.

Snack (5:30 am)

Almonds and yogurt, or a orange (or some other fruit) or some 50 cal string mozzarella cheese and 5 saltines.

Pre workout snack (7:30-8:00 am)

Depending on what i had at that snack sometimes i eat almonds and yougurt or a full english muffin with some peanut butter on it.

Dinner (10-10:30 am)

Grilled chicken on the foreman grill (6 oz) and 2 cups of vegtables. Sometimes with a small roll.

3-4 hours after that i go to bed and start all over again.

Basically i would eat this everyday with slight variations day to day. What should i change to it? Weigh 215 and my workout regime is HIIT and lose fat/gain muscle.

Also i am thinking about adding FRS drink to my diet esp. before my workout. I am tired at the end of day from working night shift and need something to wake me up so i can stay motivated and actually go to the gym. It seems to be one of the few to be good for you and actually work (supposedly).

Advice much needed and appreciated. Thank you.

I would like to make this a thread for dieters who are on budget restrictions to share their recipes or grocery lists.

I'll Start: One thing I try to do when cutting carbs is to buy a bag or 2 of frozen chicken breasts, the cheapest ones, and grill them all up at the same time. This way, I will have about 10 cooked breasts in the refrigerator so I can grab one for lunch or an afternoon snack.

I recently fell into a moderate 'depression' I guess you could call it.. and I completely lost my appetite for anything.. I wasnt even thirsty anymore. I had to REMEMBER to drink (water) and although my brain knew I was hungry the thought of eating anything made me feel sick. I literally had no appetite. But since I have been exercising to lose weight I made myself eat atleast something each day.. sandwich and salad.. banana and sandwich.. but it was only like once a day..

I am not so 'depressed' anymore, but my appetite has yet to return.. I know it goes into calories and all that, but is eating once a day no-brainer unhealthy, or will it be okay as long as I am eating SOMETHING untill my appetite comes back?
