If this site is all about getting fit and healthy the right way instead of fad diets or unrealistic exercises, which it seems to be, why do I constantly see banner ads that are obviously in contrary to this? A perfect example is the one is I can see as I write this that claims "Six packs in less than 4 weeks. You too can get that ripped six abs body in 4 weeks."

Does anyone on here who knows what they're talking about agree that this is possible? Especially if done in a safe way?

Hope I don't get a PM warning from mr moderator about this because aside from this I like this site

Hiya,

Getting straight to the point, I'm a 20 years old woman, I'm 5 FT 1" and 9.12 stones. I had my first child one and a half years ago and since then I have just let my health go down the drain. I feel very unhealthy and look very over weight (especially around my stomach) and now I really want to get healthy, look good and be able to feel great.

I don't do any exercise at all at the moment, just doing household choirs gets me tired and exausted. So I've been to scared to attempt anything else. BUT I'M READY NOW

Now for my diet. I wouldn't say it's totally unhealthy but I do eat quite abit of junk food ( 2-4 meals a week) and the rest is abit of everything; rice, veggies, meat and I love my salads etc. I know it's something I have to change and I'm ready to do that.

I understand it's going to take time and not happen over night but I just don't know where to start when it comes to exercising. Here are some of the options I came across but alot are not suitable for me:

- Firstly. I really wanted to join a gym but that idea was a failure because I can only join a womans only gym and I didn't find one in the whole of South London.

- Being a single mother makes me unable to go swimming and other activities of the such as I dont have anyone I can trust to leave my son with and I dont trust babysitters or creches.

- Walking is another option i thought of which is ideal as i could do it with my son, havn't tried yet but will.

- My best option I have come across is to buy a good exercise machine for home so I'm in my own comfort and my exercise can be suited around my lifestyle.

But heres the problem, I like the idea of a exercise bike but I have no idea of what one is good in regards to results, durability, noise and obviously price. And also I know I cant just lose fat of a certain part of my body but will it help me lose fat of my stomach as thats my biggest problem?

My price range is £150- £200

So I would be very happy if you have any information regarding exercise bikes as if it seems suitable I would like to purchase one in the following week.

Thanx

Hello,

I am a 20 year old female. I am 5'9 and weight 128lbs. I only have 2 problem areas on my body. My upper body is skinny. My stomach is flat...no lovehandles...skinny shoulders/arms. No problems at all with my upperbody. My only 2 problem areas are my inner and outer thighs. My goal is to lose the weight on my thighs and then tone. However, I DO NOT want to make them bulky. What would be the best way to approach that?

My current workout: 4-5 minute treadmill warmup. I use 3 different weight machines for my legs/thighs. One of the machines I use targets my inner thighs...the other my outer thighs and the last one a combination of both. I lift 30-40lbs with 100 reps on each machine. I use to lift 30 but gradually increased it because I was no longer feeling too much of a burn. I then go back on the treadmill for 10-15 min for a speed walk/jog. Go to the gym 3 days a week.

My questions:
Is my workout acceptable for what I'm trying to accomplish?
Am I doing too many reps?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi All

I’m very new to the idea of HIIT and haven't really found the answers I need so hope some of you can help.

I have been running for some time at the gym (ave 11kph for 30 mins, 3 times a week) and haven't really noticed a great deal of weight coming off as quick as id like, to be honest it seems like I have reached a plateau , but really need to shift another 14 pounds!!

So I was reading online about burning more fat as I still have a bit of a stomach that I really want to shift and discovered the idea of HIIT workouts. But I am unsure how to proceed with a program. Can someone please tell me if I should go to the gym and just do a 10 minute HIIT session and then consider my one of my 3 daily work outs done, or do I do it as well as my usual 5k run/cycle or in the in between days etc??? I really don't have a clue as you can tell so would appreciate and advise...

Also does anyone know of a good site that shows some type of HIIT training schedule or program I could follow as I’m very keen to get going with this as soon as possible.

I am following a healthy diet and am capable of following a HIIT program so only need advise on this and not the nutrition or health side of things.

Many thanks and I look forward to your replies

HI Everyone,

I have been working out hard since April 2009. I joined a gym which I love going to and I go between 5-6 days a week. My routine is 5 days of weights (apprx. 2 hours) and three days I do the 2 hours of weights and then go to an hour class. The classes use weights, step, bands, balls, a good mix and gets my heart rate right up there. I am 43 years old and want to get in the best shape of my life. I am 5'2" and weight 138. I am considered overweight. I can tell I am building muscle but the fat is not going away nor are cloths fitting any looser. I have stopped weighting myself because of the disappointment. My diet is extremely healthy, or at least the healthiest it has ever been. About 1500 calories a day, no sugar and lots of protein. If I need to break it all down I will. But even with Halloween just over and two kids with bags of candy I have not touched one piece. I am very dedicated and determined but it is getting very discouraging with no physical changes. No medical conditions either. Any one have any suggestions to get things going finally?

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and thought i'd post what i'm planning on doing in the next six weeks to see if the more experienced have any suggestions on changes for maximum benefits.

About me: I'm a 23 year old male, 5'11, 155 lbs, 15.2% body fat.

Previous 2 months: I was focusing strictly on upper body weight training every second day with 15 minute HIIT cycling in between weight training days (6 day workout week). My goals for the two months were to gain strength and get my heart in better shape. I've had hyperthyroidism since the start of the year (makes you have really low energy - sleepy all the time) and after the medication started to work in September I immediately wanted to feel stronger and get back into decent shape. Both my goals were met.

My fitness goal for the next 6 weeks (possibly longer, but most likely i'll be starting a bulking phase right after): Lose as much body fat as possible in a healthy way. My goal is to get down to 13% but I would be happy with high 13's, low 14's. My secondary goal is to not lose the muscle/strength I've gained in the last two months.

Diet: I'm a vegetarian. I was eating a higher calorie diet in the past two months (gained 10 pounds, but a good amount of it is muscle) simply because I was lifting weights. For the next six weeks my diet will mainly consist of protein shakes (protein powder, light soy milk, flaxseed, yogurt, fibre) which is roughly 200 calories 2-3 times a day, ceasar salads, cereals, rice, yogurt and that's probably about it. As i'm typing this it seems like very little, but i've had this diet in the past (around 1500 calories a day) and have been able to exercise 6 days a week and have energy to work, go out, etc...

Supplements:
Morning – GNC mega men’s multivitamin (1/2), 100mg co-Q10, 500mg L-Carnitine, 200mg green tea extract
Afternoon – GNC mega men’s multivitamin (2/2), 500mg L-carnitine, 200mg green tea extract
Pre-workout – 200mg green tea extract, Amino Vital Endurance fruit juice (loaded with amino acids for sustained energy)

Workout:
Tuesday: Run @ 7 miles per hour for 60 minutes or play floor hockey (sometimes it gets cancelled)
Wednesday: HIIT on the bike @ 15 minutes, then pullups, pushups, and ab sets (I would do the sets, probably 3 of each, before the HIIT)
Thursday: Run @ 8.5 miles for 30 minutes (up to 60 minutes if I have the energy)
Friday: Rowing @ 30 minutes at medium intensity, then 15 minutes of HIIT rowing
Saturday: Carb load all day and run in the late afternoon @ 7 miles per hour for as long as possible to a maximum of 3 hours
Sunday: Full body muscle workout (this is for maintenance – I don’t want to lose muscle during this phase - I might limit this to upperbody depending on how the legs feel)
Monday: Off

As extra motivation I have a friendly bet going with a buddy who's also trying to lose weight (albeit he has around 30% body fat) on who can lose the most % body fat in the next 6 weeks.

In the past i've averaged around 1% of body fat loss per month. I did that without any supplements and mostly with cycling and a little bit of running. I'm hoping to lose around 2.5% of body fat; I don't want to use any fat burners (at least this time around - if I find I don't get where I want to be in six weeks, then the next time I do a cutting phase i'll try one).

Any suggestions to the workout schedule, diet, or supplements I have listed there?

As far as eating goes, I eat very healthy for breakfast and lunch and dinner is kinda spotty on wither or not i eat healthy.
That's about 6'0" 265lbs I've been told I hide my weight well, but I don't want to have to.

I lost a little bit moving to a dorm but that's because I can't eat as much, this little loss can't last forever though.

My daily food intake is generally about the same which includes:

~2 bottles of Brisk Iced Tea

Generally a lunch of subway 6" Club Wheat bread only lettuce and a bag of sunchips

Usually a dinner of the same but occasionally I get a personal pizza(sausage) or a personal box of the cheese sticks
Sometimes a cup of mountain dew along with it.

Sometimes a sandwich can be thrown in depending on what times I eat.

Some people say it's a lot, other people don't. I don't know.

My daily exercise includes walking close to 2 miles a day between classes and not much else.

I know there are many obvious reasons in that list as to WHY I'm fat, but my problem is what to do about it. Exercise wise and food wise (other than cutting out the papa johns) I would like to hear exercise ideas that can help not only fat loss but also a little strength building would be nice. (Fat loss is the main matter though) These ideas have to be without the use of equipment however. That is non-negotiable and not by my choice either. I would love to have a gym to use.

1st week update:
Checked the scale. I'm down 1.5 lbs from the date of this post. I'm hoping the progress increases a little bit once I get my eating on a routine schedule. (Doing much better about that btw) Plan to post a new pic without the hoody at the 10lb mark :D

Hello,

I have read all of the FAQs, but am still wondering if I'm doing it right (probably not). I would really appreciate it if someone could just give me a quick evaluation of my diet and exercise routine, and tell me if this looks healthy and will do me well in losing weight. I've been on this new lifestyle for 2 weeks, but it is not a drastic change (i.e. I wasn't eating junk before starting it).

I am 20 years old, 6ft 1", and I weigh 216 lbs (98kg). My exercise routine consists of 40-50 min of cycling (on a machine mind you) at an intense enough level so that my heart rate is always ~ 115-120 (for the full 40 min). I do this five days a week, but towards the end of the week, I tend to get tired and do more and more spouts of cardio (2 20 minute sessions or 4 ten minute sessions for instance) and in addition, I use a rowing machine at mid resistence level to do 100 reps 3 days a week. Is this enough exercise?

Here is my diet:

10AM - Breakfast: Shredded What + Whole milk = 440 cal
12PM - Snack: Can of tuna (in water) + 1tbsp mayo, + 1 Goodbelly drink = 160 cal
3PM - Lunch: 2 Slices of whole wheat bread + deli meat (chicken, turkey, or ham) = 380 cal
5PM - Snack: 1/2 cup apple sauce or 1 whole apple/bannana + 1 whole grain protein bar = 230 Cal
7PM - Dinner: 1 whole bag of frozen vegetables boiled (Brussel sprouts, Spinach, Peas, or Broccoli) = ~290 Cal

This is my regular diet. Sometimes my breakfast will be extremely light, (1/2 cup cottage cheese - 120 cal), but I make up for it with a heavier dinner, like a chicken breast or substantial amount of ground beef. I only drink water, in addition to the one good belly drink (which is a probiotic mix of 50 cal for digestive health). Should I be add more calories, or keep it at about this range?

Thanks for any responses.
