Ultimate Frisbee has gained a large following and is emerging onto the recreational sports scene. It’s easy to play. All you need are some friends, a field, and a Frisbee. Most folks would NEVER even consider using a Frisbee for fitness training compared to a Zumba class, but did you know you could burn up to 572 calories per hour from playing this sport? It involves a ton of running and can become pretty intense!

If you have never played, simply go to UltimateFrisbeeRules.org to learn the rules. Now grab a Frisbee, some friends and give it a try!

Hello! I'm new and I'm on a hunt to figure the best rounded way to work out, the best nutritional recommendations to keep lean mass, and the most efficient way to burn fat.

My current stats are such
Starting weight 247 (march 2012)
Current Weight 225
Goal weight 145(aiming for may 2013)
Body fat % 44

I know I have such a long long way to go, the numbers still are very daunting to me, even tho the number is going down.
My work out when I started was 10 minutes of cardio followed by core, free hand weights, lunges, then followed by another 10 on cardio. First 6 weeks I met with a personal trainer every other week, he showed me lots of great core exercises. The gym I joined provides me with someone to take my measurements every 6 weeks, I lost 11.5 inches all over which is great in my first 6 weeks, I also lost 17 lbs but half of that weight showed up as lean mass and I want to keep as much as I can. So I upped my protein to around 120g a day I was intaking around 90-100g per day but my trainer says I need more, so more it is. I tend to not intake as much carbs as my calorie counter reccomends around 10% more than what I'm getting in, will that effect where the weight loss comes from?

Let me get you up to speed on my current diet and exercise routine. I'm currently intaking around 1550 calories a day. I use my fitness pal to track it all. As far as my work out I now do 18 min of cardio on the elliptical to warm up then move to cable weights where I work a body area for 3 days low weight 3 sets of 15-20 , and I always include core at the end since I'm heavier in the mid area my core is so so weak. Then I hit cardio again sometimes it's 10 on the bike, or like today 15 min on the treadmill. I work out 5-6 days a week. I'm always open to switching things up. Sorry this is so lengthy I wanted to make sure I included everything so no one had any questions, again what can I do differently to maintain lean mass and rid my body as much fat as possible.

Thanks for reading

The 'weight loss' board might not be the best place for this since this isn't only about weight loss, but it's the #1 goal of this by a narrow margin.

A little about me: I'm 25, male, 5'10", 180 pounds at the moment which is a bit higher than it should be. I'm built on the lankier side and was 150 pounds regardless of what I ate or did until I graduated college, but it's crept up since then. Most of my weight's carried in my thighs/butt, with some around the belly, too. I'm getting married in 6 months and would like to get in a bit better shape before then. I'm a research scientist in a technology field, so I spend all my time sitting in front of a computer. Goodie.

I've got an exercise routine going, but I'd like to get a little feedback on if I'm doing anything wrong or missing an opportunity to make much greater gains in the same amount of time.

Basically, my routine at the moment is as follows:

~3 minutes of leg stretching

35 minutes on a stationary bike, increasing the intensity a level every 3 minutes (8 total intensities), with 8 minutes at the highest intensity before slowly winding down the intensity over the last 6 minutes -- I don't have a heart rate monitor, but my crude self-calculations put it at about 150 bpm.

~3 minutes of leg stretching

20 arm curls per arm with a 20-pound dumbbell

12 presses with a 20-pound dumbbell in each hand

50 toe-raises (if that's where they're called) holding a 20-pound dumbbell in each hand

25 sit-ups (adding one more each day)

25... eh, whatever it's called when you step up and down onto something. 25 for each leg, adding one more per day there, too.

Pull-ups until I basically can't go anymore (well... once my pull-up bar arrives, anyway, that'll be the last step).

I do that twice a day, in the morning before breakfast (after a snack, though) and in the afternoon after work. Takes about 50-55 total minutes, and I really can't spare any more than that.

My first goal is weight loss, but cardiovascular fitness and upper body toning are goals of mine as well.

So, given all that and what I'm aiming for, any feedback? Is there anything I could be doing instead of some of that to get better results? Part of me is wondering if that many curls/presses and sit-ups/pull-ups is even enough to make a difference, or if a different pacing on the bike would be better. Any feedback is appreciated, thanks.

I'm sure you get this thread popping up all the time from people with one post like me, but hey, consistency is key.

I was wondering if my routine was okay. I'm an 18 year old guy, I'm 5"9.5 and weigh 154lb. Although I'm not overweight in terms of BMI, I would like to cut on the belly and face 'chubbiness' etc.

I started doing high intensity running 3 times a week, where I warm up for 3 minutes on 5mph, sprint on 10mph for 30 seconds, then roughly a minute on 3.5, rinse and repeat for 6 times. Then warm down on 3.5 until I'm not out of breath any more.

I also do some ab, chest and arm work outs with the only weights we have in our house (Two 5kg dumbells)

I was wondering if you guys think this would be a good way to cut on belly fat and also get some decent muscle going? (Ladies love a lean man, I'm told). Also how long would it take for the results to show? I've done it four times so far and it's not really had any effect aesthetically or weight-wise to be honest.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

Like most, I have a very busy life between work and family. My only real option for working out is first thing in the morning. This means getting up at 3:20 in the morning, M-F. My gym is only 2 minutes down the road (thankfully). The first thing I do is go in the bike for 45-60 minutes each day.

(let me side bar by saying I have hip damage and am limited to the bike to reduce wear on my hips. Also, right now I am fighting with tendonsis in my left elbow and tendonitis in my right elbow. I'm going through Prolotherapy to try to speed that along so I can get into a more normal weight range on the machines I use---I'm pretty sure I developed this by being stupid and always doing my weight training first thing and then my cardio for a stupid reason---I just didn't want to sweat all over the place while doing the machines).

OK, then, after the cardio I hit the machines and try to get my strength training in; about 20 minutes worth.

Then, I do about 10-15 minutes of stretching and go home to get ready for work. All-in-all, about 1.5 hours spent, 5 days a week.

Now, today I went into GNC to get some multi-vitamins and in talking with the woman about my routine she says I"m doing my self an injustice by doing all my cardio first, then my weight lifting. That I should do 10 minutes to warm up, do my weight training, go back on the bike for ~40 minutes, then do my stretching routine. She made it sound like I would burn more calories and fat that way. I'm not sure I get the logic???

HELP ME, PLEASE!!!! Is my routine totally wrong? My goal is really fat loss first, then the other usualy benefits of working out. NOT trying to bulk up, but really just tone everything up and stay healthy so I'm around many years for my now 6 and 3 year old children. I do have an excess of fat in my torso. Not sure how much as I've never been measured for body fat %.

Right now, eating very healthly most of the time (I have to have a bad mean once a week or I would lose my mind), I'm maybe averaging 1 pound/ week of weight loss. Would love to speed that up a bit without thermagenics, caffeine, etc.

OK, I've said a lot. Anything you can do to help me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks..

Hello all!
I thank you for the opportunity to post my concerns in this public forum, I'm hoping the dedicated community here can be of some assistance in a matter I'll admit I'm less than proficient with...

My wife is a 23 year old woman, 5'6'' and currently 90 lbs, which is neither her goal nor her desire to remain there... After batteries of medical tests coming up clean, so far the only concrete thing we have been to able to ascertain is that she is lactose intolerant. She has refrained from exercise in recent months due to a fear that she will exercise even more of her weight away. I'm here seeking advice first in the way of trying to find any ideas about how she can gain weight, because that is her immediate focus. Before getting sick she was 120lbs and this is her target weight.
I'm hoping anyone out there may have suggestions in the form of dietary suggestions and/or exercise regimens. We've been doing okay cutting lactose and gluten from the diet, but the selections have stayed fairly slim... i don't think it's helping us that we're having to stick to four or five recipes because it's all we've found and are able to cook.
Just any suggestions regarding diet/exercise, and we're open to supplements as well but our selections at supplement stores are a bit limited due to Milk being a common ingredient.
Thank you very much!

I really would like to get into soccer playing shape. Right now when I work out I get really sore fast due to sporadic work out times and size. When I do squats my thighs hurt for days. Not able to do lunges properly. My question is where do I start? I have a mountain bike and I have started running on a treadmill once in awhile. Do I focus primarily on cardio with a little weight lifting? Guess I just want someone to stay this is what you have to do first then do this second, then work your way to this to maximize your fat loss. Also when I am on the treadmill what speed should I have it on for cardio running? 6mph?

Hey there, thanks for reading. I'm here for opinionated advice from a knowledgeable weight loss community, not a comprehensive general fitness guide or long-term cookie cutter chart/calendar. I trust you guys know your stuff and hope one of you can give me a simple plan :). Just looking to burn fat and lose weight, not going for muscle or any specific body part, although I would like my butt to stay roughly the same.

I'm mixed, about 50/50 white/black, eat mostly frozen foods at home and your typical cheeseburger/chicken/pizza lunch rotation most days at school, and only drink water. I have two 10 pound dumbbells a treadmill, and no workout or nutrition experience. I take a one a day male teen advantage complete multivitamin every night before I go to bed, have virtually never eaten vegetables, and like fruit.

Based on the info above and any more you might need, what simple workout and nutrition plan would you recommend for a complete beginner? Thanks a bunch!

I have started doing burst training. I do understand the science behind the technique of burning sugar during the workouts leaving the body to burn fat for (according to the studies) several hours thereafter. My question is what to eat after the burst training? My thought is as follows: The burst training depletes the sugar forcing the body to burn fat afterwards. However, if I eat after the training, I am thinking I am replacing the sugar/carbs/glycogen and the body will go after that (the easy stuff to burn for fuel), defeating the purpose of the burst training. I know this can't be right but am wondering what would be the best foods to eat after the training.

In this series, Surprising Ways to Slash 500 Calories, we discuss a variety of ways you can easily eliminate 500 calories from your daily routine resulting in an easy weight loss of one pound per week. You may not even think these food or beverage items “count”, but they do. Our job is to help you in your weight loss goals and even if you were to burn one less calorie day; it would add up over time.

Jumping rope is a great way to warm up before a workout. However, it’s also an insanely effective fat burner if used properly as a workout. Jumping rope vigorously can burn up to 700 calories per hour. Did you know that jumping rope for 10 minutes is equivalent to running an 8 minute mile? Jumping rope is convenient – you don’t have to go anywhere to do it, it only requires a three dollar rope, some sneakers and your set. Another benefit? Jumping rope can be is easier on your knees than running. 500 calories? Psshhh. Jump for an hour and blow past that with no problemo.

Hi, I'm not sure if this was the right section to post this topic on.. but anyway, I would like to get rid of fat from my face. I am thin but my cheeks are chubby and I hate it and I want a more gaunt and sculpted looking face. So how can I get rid of the fat from my face? Would I have to lose weight overall to make my face thinner, and would I have to lose an extreme amount of weight so that I can lose fat from my face? Because I don't believe people really lose weight from their face first when they are trying to lose weight. Also, I would like to get toned all over, and get rid of some fat from specific areas on my body.. like my arms, and my stomach. They don't have a lot of fat but I would still like to get rid of it and just make my whole body more toned overall. I work out at the gym but it doesn't really seem to do much. I try to eat healthy but it's so hard since I don't know exactly what kind of food I should eat and I just end up giving up and eating junk food and stuff again. :( I really want to become fit and more toned but it just seems like it's impossible and I don't know where to start. Advice would be greatly appreciated! :)
