Well I was almost kicked out of the gym for wearing them. They(the people who work at the gym) said they would let me workout for that day, but next time I would have to wear something that is apropriate for working out. So can you guys tell me what is appropiate?
I was wearing black cargo pants that day and they thought I was wearing jeans. They said I would damage the equipment for wearing jeans. Since jeans and cargo look a bit similar do you think they would kick me out for wearing cargo pants?

Nope. I only have cargo pants. I am taking classes in the University of Saskatchewan right now. I don't have a car or bus pass to go to a clothing store and I really don't know the city too well.

i am sure there is an on campus store that sells UofS shorts or sweatpants. I can't imagine a university that doesn't provide "promotional" clothing for prospective students.

The gyms in my area don't allow jeans either, and if your pants look too much like jeans they won't let you in, because other members will think that they are jeans and want to wear their jeans too. Go figure. Also no boots, etc. You must be wearing "workout attire and sneakers".
In my school gym its stricter; no crop tops (bellies showing) and not even tank tops, because infections can spread from shoulders coming in contact with the machines. Apparently no one wipes down at my school...

It's the gym code...like the restaurant that wants you to wear a tie. I don't think it's that bad of a rule, if you are allowed to wear jeans then you are allowed to wear whatever you want to wear. They just draw a line so as to avoid something like this happening. It's not a big deal.

I'd imagine that the rules are in place for safety reasons than comfort.
Jeans: restrict movements somewhat. Let's say you're doing squats and suddenly you can't lift it anymore because your pants are tight. Well, someone decides to come to your rescue and because of your jeans restricting your movement, you fall over board and all that weight comes crashing down.
Or let's say you decide to hop on the treadmill for a bit. Since you're wearing jeans, you can't move and you trip and crack your head open on the spin.
Cargo Pants and other things with lose pockets/items: Safety hazard. Woodshops and auto shops don't allow these for a reason and the same for the weight rooms. These things can get caught on something. Logic concludes that the less things hanging out and the tighter your clothes are, the less of a chance it will catch on to something.
Let's say someone was lifting a really heavy bench, and you just happen to pass by and your pants get caught on the bar for just a second and causes them to lose grips and smash their chest.
Or let's say you're walking and your pockets get caught on a weight rack and it comes crashing down on your foot.
If I ran a gym, no one would be wearing lose clothing, sandals, or jeans. As a matter of fact, just to show them how unsafe it is, I'd drop a five pounds on them.
What I recommend to do is use a cargo pants, but cut out all of the pockets.

• Appropriate athletic clothing and footwear must be worn by individuals working out within the Fit Centre.Staff are asked to ensure that clothing worn by patrons does not create an uncomfortable environment for others.
• Individuals working out within the fit centre are not permitted to wear sandals.
It does not say anything specifically about jeans or cargo pants.
