2000 metre rowing times

Hi y'all,

this is my very first post on this forum. i have been trying to find something i really enjoy and am good at at the gym. I started doing rowing. I absalutley love it. I time myself at doing 2000 metres. My first time was a very disappointing 10.15 but now i have got it down to 8.14 on my second go.

is that a good time?

It's not on the easiest resistance. the rowing machine has a restistance between 1 - 10, 10 being the hardest. i have it set on 5.

Have i found something i'm good at? I know it has beat my schools record of 8.17.

All comments welcome, however harsh or nice they are.

Thanks

what do you weigh? lbs please

8:15 is not bad for your second time. readin that you're "big built" i would say comparable times are in the low 6 minute range...but it definitely takes work to get there.

it's not a good time for a rower, but for someone just starting it's fine. Keep working at it. For your height and age, the 6:40 range would be pretty solid, especially for a non-rower. Have you only been doing 2ks or have you been mixing up the workouts?

I've only been doing 2ks. Is rowing a good method for weight loss?

Rowing is a great way to do some full body HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training).

Be sure to mix up your workouts on the erg though. Doing 2Ks will get boring very quickly and you won't see great improvements if those are all you are doing on the erg. Do some longer pieces at a lighter pace, and IF YOU ARE HEALTHY ENOUGH do some high intensity pieces with active rest such as 1 min on, 30 sec off, 2 min on, 1 min off, 500 meters on, 250 off. all these options can be programmed into the erg.

What version erg are you using? Is it a Concept 2 Model C, Concept 2 Model D or E. Models D and E have better programmable monitors.

I would suggest that you do some reading on here about diet changes and weight lifting as part of a weight loss routine. there's a lot of information to be had, and some very deep posts by our very own Chillen
