In Australian schools, there's this thing called Jump Rope for Heart. Is skipping with a skip rope really that good for you? And if it is a good form of cardio, how many should one aim to do in a session?
Jumping rope is very good for you. Try it! It is the state of readiness that burns so many calories.
anyhow, here is a favorite of mine that i typically attempt following my run.
try for a full three minutes of double speed. Everytime you fail, drop and do 25 pushups. one exercise works against the other and the accomplishment of 3 straight minutes becomes tougher and tougher. Keep makin the attempt until you have done the 3 minutes or done 200 pushups.
if you pull it off,,, try taking you shoes off an ddoing it bare footed with a leather rope.
Erm, that advice is awesome for many but not for me, unfortunately. Currently I tremblingly do five push-ups with weak form! That'd kill me. But yeah, something to bear in mind when I do get fit and something that'd no doubt be awesome for everyone who is in a fit and muscular state.
I think I might jump rope up the hill and back between bus trips when I commute to uni and back. That's the glorious thing about skip rope, so long as you have no shame you can do anything as it can fit in a handbag.
Anyone else have any other hints, tips and advice on getting the most out of skip rope? What muscles it works, etc.?
