select-tech dumbbells

i was thinking of getting dumbbells.

i happened to come across these one called Bowflex Select-Tech dumbbells.

they are adjustable in weights and they seem to be of good quality. do you recommend me getting these adjustable weight dumbells or number of pairs of different weights?

If they feel comfortable, it doesn't matter. Dumbells are just a convenient way to lift something heavy -- not much technological variation really

I always prefer the dark, black, flat sets of differently weighted dumbells - with a hexagonal face. I think they're just so sexy.

Adjustable dumbbells are more convenient, so i'd suggest getting some. However, the Selectech aren't as durable as some others, IMO. Instead consider Powerblocks, Ironmaster and Hoist quick-change DBs.

Those bowflex ones look pretty cool! I like the adjustable type for money savings and space savings. But, they can be a pain in the azz to adjust. And, sometimes I am in a rush to grab some weight!

If you can afford them (and have space for them), do like Fil said and get hex individual ones. I have Hamptons in 5 lb increments from 5 to 70 lbs. They are hex ones coated with rubber and the handles are dead sexy (concave to fit your hand).

Before buying powerblock style ones, try them out... They don't fit properly for some people. And, they will bump your wrists and forearms from time-to-time.

Pumpster says the select-tech aren't as durable, but they appear much more like a "normal" dumbbell than some of the other selectables. Try them all out carefully and decide!

If it is a money issue, you can get the hexes a couple at a time. And, slowly fill them in until you have a complete set.

The Ironmaster and Hoist dumbbells also have the regular dumbbell look and are far more durable than the Selectechs. The Selectechs look and feel great, but so do the 'blocks.

Don't believe me on the durability issue, be smart and check the warranties:

To each his own but i'd rather use these than have a number of solid dumbbells taking up space.
