Your tagline says you want to increase weight, and I suppose you could with the TotalGym. I have a knock off brand of that now that I'm old and wimpy (herniated disc), and I think most of the exercises are really in the toning category, and not in the 'bulking up' category (but I'm no expert on this!)

If you want to increase muscle mass like your tagline says, I think the best approach would be free weights and a good program to exercise all your muscles (and avoid the over-emphasis on the chest muscles most guys in the gym seem to have). A number of years ago I did some combo free weights with cardio exercise and did very well in toning up and reducing my BMI. For bulking up, I would think free weights would be one of the best ways.

I also have a knockoff version of the Total gym. I don't think it will make you look like Arnold, but it can give you a very nice physique (isn't that an old word) and it is fun to use.

They are incredibly versitile. We use them a lot for rehab situations as well.

total gym 1000

I have one and I really love it. I practice martial arts and I want strength and power without a lot of bulk. I don't feel like I'm using it to it's full potential - does anyone know where I can find a list of exercises for it, online?

I love mine, I can do lots of exercises on it, but I feel it is not right for losing the weight that I'd like to.

If you want a Total Gym, look around at Play it Again Sports. I picked up a XL model for $50 bucks. Can add up to 350#s total weight.

My experience with the total gym

My reply is kind of late but i wanted to write about my experience with the total gym 1000. I have to start by saying i love this machine. When i left the military I stopped working out and within two years I had gained a lot of weight. I bought the total gym used and started using it along with cardio equipment, (bike and treadmill). This machine gave me the ability to get back to my ideal weight and gave me great definition. I highly recommend getting the weight bar that fits into the bottom of the seat. Once you start losing weight and go through the incline cycles, it's nice to start gaining strength. there are endless exercises on this machine.

i do have to say if you're looking to lose weight, no individual machine takes place of a true cardio work out but you can circuit train a mean sweat on this machine that will help you drop pounds.

hope this helps who ever is interested in getting one. It's inexpensive and effective.
