Cool Healthiest Protein Shake EVER

This is seriously the best damn protein shake you can make in 2 minutes.

Ingredients:
2 raw eggs (I have yet to get salmonella)
1 cup skim milk
1 cup frozen blueberries
2 tblspn metamucil
2 tblspn flaxseed meal
1 scoop vanilla protein powder

Mix all that up. You got yourself what tastes essentially like a blueberry milkshake, and its one of the god damn healthiest things you can ever have. I drink it post workout because it has very high amount of simple sugars, but its also good to drink first thing in the morning if you don't have a lot of time on your hands to make oatmeal or something.

Cals: 430
Fats: 16g
-Sat: 4g
-Omega3: 2.5g
Carbs approx: 40g (fiber excluded)
-Sugar: 24g
-Fiber: 15g
Protein: 39g

Damn isn't that great? I use EAS protein powder which is pure whey protein isolate, giving me 39 grams of delicious QUALITY protein (isolate, milk, eggs, flax). 24 grams of sugar to give you the insulin spike you need. 2.5 grams of delicious omega 3 which nobody seems to get enough of. And holy moly this mofo has 15g of fiber! thats like 30% of daily intake! And damn 1 cup of blueberries has more antioxidants than you can shake a stick at!(over 5x more than the same serving size of broccoli) What more needs to be said? plus it doesn't taste like garbage like some shakes. Some may not like it, but I don't mind a blueberry milkshake post workout

Just gotta make sure you drink it reasonably fast; anyone who makes shakes with eggs know they will start to separate into their own layer after sitting for several minutes.

Anyway, I challenge anyone to make a healthier, higher quality shake

We probably won't ever get salmonella from eating raw eggs. I've been eating raw eggs my entire life and I'm still alive. And our poultry board has very strict regulations

As for the shake, that sounds mighty tasty!!!

I'm not sure I can top that one, limestix. Although the Metamucil doesn't sound very appetizing

The metamucil I use is 3g soluble fiber per tblspn and its colorless and tasteless I didn't buy it and never have bought it so I don't know what metamucil is generally like.
But if it isnt your thing you can drop it, its just an extra 6g free fiber.

Its easily avoided, as the inside of an egg, raw or otherwise, is completely sterile. Anyone who says they got salmonella from a raw egg actually got it from the egg shell, as the outside of the egg is the only place anything nasty could possibly be. Solution? Crack them carefully. Or just rinse them before you break them.

Some excerpts from "Egg Safety" Egg Safety

"How safe are eggs?

The risk of getting a foodborne illness from eggs is very low. However, the nutrients that make eggs a high-quality food for humans are also a good growth medium for bacteria. In addition to food, bacteria also need moisture, a favorable temperature and time in order to multiply and increase the risk of illness. In the rare event that an egg contains bacteria, you can reduce the risk by proper chilling and eliminate it by proper cooking. When you handle eggs with care, they pose no greater food-safety risk than any other perishable food.

The inside of an egg was once considered almost sterile. But, over recent years, the bacterium Salmonella enteritidis (Se) has been found inside a small number of eggs. Scientists estimate that, on average across the U.S., only 1 of every 20,000 eggs might contain the bacteria. So, the likelihood that an egg might contain Se is extremely small – 0.005% (five one-thousandths of one percent). At this rate, if you’re an average consumer, you might encounter a contaminated egg once every 84 years.

Doesn't the eggshell protect an egg from bacteria?

Yes and no. The egg has many natural, built-in barriers to help prevent bacteria from entering and growing. These protect the egg on its way from the hen to your home. But, although it does help, the porous shell itself is not a foolproof bacterial barrier. For further safety, government regulations require that eggs be carefully washed with special detergent and sanitized. Then, the hen’s original protective shell coating is generally replaced by a thin spray coating of a tasteless, odorless, harmless, natural mineral oil. A shiny shell indicates oiling, rather than an unsafe or old egg.

Are Salmonella bacteria most likely to be found in the egg's white or yolk?

Bacteria, if they are present at all, are most likely to be in the white and will be unable to grow, mostly due to lack of nutrients. As the egg ages, however, the white thins and the yolk membrane weakens. This makes it possible for bacteria to reach the nutrient-dense yolk where they can grow over time if the egg is kept at warm temperatures. But, in a clean, uncracked, fresh shell egg, internal contamination occurs only rarely."

Instead of Metamucil i use psylium fiber husks. Its a bit grainy at the bottom, but its so good for you. I also add yogurt, peanut butter and bannanas from time to time.

I am assuming it is ok to use fresh blueberries? I couldn't find anything frozen at the market today. That and I have to go with just the eggs, fruit and milk for right now, couldn't afford to pick up the whey and all. LOL

OH and um, where can you get the actual fish oil as a liquid? All I can seem to find when I look are the pills

Liquid fish oil? huh? I mean you can get cod liver oil but it tastes absolutely repulsive. The shake has ground flax meal in it for omega 3, not fish oil. And if you use omega 3 enriched eggs, the flax is probably not needed.

And ya fresh berries are good, probably have better nutrient profiles since freezing damages them a bit. I just like the frozen ones because it makes the shake a little colder and icier.

Just make sure you can stomach all that protein before you start drinking this shake regularly. If you have a weak stomach for protein this shake could give you the *****s like crazy
