Burning / itching pain in thigh?

    recently started gym ...

have only recently started jogging/running on the treadmill .... (past few weeks, walked at a fast pace)

last wednesday, decided I was ready to jog, so jogged at 8,5km/hr for 9 minutes, then set the treadmill to 11km/hr for 7 minutes (total time jogging was 16 minutes)

went fine, fitness is not too bad for the time I have spent in gym (7 weeks)

only problem is that since wednesday, I have a constant burning pain in my top right thigh .... it also occasionaly feels numb at times, and the past day, also feels itchy at times

done a bit of googling, and could be lactic acid build up, but why has it been persistent for so long? ... also why is my thigh itchy and numb?

have not been to gym since friday (work out mon-friday and have the weekends off) ... on thursday and friday, reverted back to walking at a fast pace (7km/hr)

    hope its nothing serious?

my current workout consists of light weight circuits, (excluding the leg weight machines), 16 minutes on the rowing machine, 16 minutes on the cycle, 16 minutes on the ellipytical trainer, and 16 minutes on the treadmill ... I have been going to gym for 7 weeks, and have lost more than 12kg

This is my first post but I simply couldn't let this ride without comment. whenever someone tells you "don't worry, I think there is nothing serious", that would be the time when I start to worry! I came here for some advice on putting some exercise back into my 68 year old life and I surely do not want to be told by anyone who doesn't have the proper credentials nor has seen my condition or has yet to meet me not to worry!! I hope I didn't stumble into a group of self declared physical therapists who try to diagnose problems and dole out free advice just to build up their post count.

I am so sorry to come on so strong on my first post but I do not take frivolous comments such as this woman made lightly! I apologize for stepping on anyone's toes but I want to shoot straight with people and I expect straight answers on a level of belief that I can use.

Thanks for letting me rant on my first post.

no probs .... have found out what the problem is ....

it's called Meralgia paraesthetica .... herewith a link:

Meralgia paraesthetica - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

have not seen a doctor, as not much can be done (unless you want an operation, or wish to receive cortizone injections or acupuncture)

I still go to gym 5 times a week, pain is not so bad anymore, and from what I have read, will take a few months to clear up by itself (hopefully)

I have been suffering from the exact same symptoms and have found 3 possible causes of which two sound plausible, one is the same one you cited in your last post. I have an appointment at the VA hospital the end of this month and will bring this to the attention of my primary care giver in whom I literally trust my life!! He is a remarkable man and one of the best doctors I have ever seen.

I hope that young lady wasn't offended by my remarks but I am way too old to gloss over things and a person's health is much too important to simply merit a "Don't worry" diagnosis from anyone. When you start pushing 70 as hard as I am now, you realize that all those times when you said to yourself, "Aw, it'll get better" or "I think I can work past the pain" only to find out later on that you have overlooked something major in your health and it is now too late to do anything about it. I have first hand knowledge of these things.

I would suggest a visit to the Doctor..."another saying is it is better to be safe than sorry".

One of my favorite sites for information is ....skinnyreports.com They provide valuable information on exercise and other topics.
