| | | Diabetic advantage? I have been reading about the affects of insulin for about two weeks now and I'm just now starting to understand it. So my question is do diabetics have an advantage because they get to inject themselves and not die? Or am i just that dumb to even think that? |

| | | Not producing it at all would lead to a high sensitivity of insulin, I guess they cant really control when they need or don't need their insulin. Taking it right after they workout would be crazy, but I guess they cant time that. |

| | | Anyone can inject insulin and not die. It's very very tricky though, and you can easily die if you mess up. The routine most typeIs are on doesn't really help in a performance aspect though.
ProBBs use insulin daily, it's the most anabolic chemical, even more than all steroids and other peptide hormones. |

| | | Type 1 diabetics inject enough insulin to not die. they don't produce it so they need to manually administer it. Pain in the ass, and i'm sorry for anyone that has to deal with that.
They could inject more than recomended. That's dangerouse, and anyone could inject insulin.
Manually administering it, and the body producing it are the same thing. The levels shouldn't be high enough to give someone an edge... no |

| | Hi all, this is my 1st post. I saw the thread and decided to register because of it. Let me start off by saying what a wonderful forum site this is!! I own one simular myself. Back to the subject of Diabetes.
I am insulin dependent, have been for 24 years, thats correct, shootin up since I was 8. Im now 33 ,have been in bodybuilding/fitness for 13 years. I am a type 1 diabetic. The effects of insulin in the bodybuildin world im not sure of,but I cant tell you it has or hasnt helped me. Im 6'2 ,240 @ 17 percent.
Let me explain that when you inject insulin, it take the carbs/sugers and delivers it to your cells. So in theory, take alot of insulin, eat as much complex carbs/protein and let it work. The only way it really succesfully works is if you were to eat a grocery cart full of clean food. So what im saying is its not like other drugs..take em ,get bigger. It doesnt work like that.
Also let me explain, I have never done any other drugs or even smoked before. Im clean as a whistle other than having what I feel is a long term handicap of Diabetes. I would give anything to be normal, not having to test my blood 4 times a day ,take insulin 2 to 4 time a day. It really sucks. If you take it and your body produces it naturally, your killin yourself, dont do it.
If you do experiment with it, you must get a blood test kit and watch your average. You can or will kill yourself if your not extreamly careful....again,dont do it.
Thank for hearing me out. I havent even touched the beginning of Diabetes or insulin usage and how it affects you overall , so do your research on it. Let me know of any questions.
Jason

| | | hey nice reply totalpack.
I would have thought it would be obvious also that shooting up excessive amounts of insulin to try and get big would clog up all the receptors and eventually become less responsive leading to typee 2?
All the carbs get taken in anyway because the insulin produced is suffecient enough, if you had a graph youll would see the effect nicely.. |

Jason | Exactly. I'm also a Type 1 Diabetic and it always amazes me at how little people know about diabetes and insulin in general.
I inject 5-7 times a day, take my BG up to 10 times a day, and have been doing this for 25 years. I've been quite athletic all my life, but I also can't say whether or not insulin has helped me because I've never taken any more insulin than was required to deal with my carb intake.
I'm also as clean as whistle.
All I know is that if I could wake up tomorrow and not have diabetes, it would be great. |

| | | | my father had diabetes and used to inject himself. a couple of times he injected too much on accident and passed out and ended up in the hospital. he was old and i guess he didn't realize that he gave himself too much. it was very scary and dangerous.
anyway, would a pancreas transplant help? i know they didn't do that for my father, but if it could have helped him, they should have. |

You don't have to be old to do that. I've done it many times. I just end up either injecting more insulin or going on a carb binge. I've only passed out from being hypo a few times.
I think only brittle diabetics or Type 1 diabetics who are in the final stages of renal disease would be considered for a pancreas transplant. The patient would also have to be on immunosuppressants for the rest of their life, and the side effects from those are often worse than having diabetes. Moreover, the surgery is far too risky.
