I am a newbie here. I have been lifting weights, treadmill and elliptical pretty seriously (or what I thought was serious) for about 5 months in an attempt to lose weight and tone up. I was going no where really fast. Well I shouldn't say that. I lost 7 lbs and about 13 inches but then actually gained like 2 inches back. So I started working with a personal trainer about 2 weeks ago. By the time he is done with me I feel like I have gotten run over by a truck. He pushes me hard and I am sore for 3-4 days afterwards. I am seeing him for an hour 2x a week. Last time though I felt faint, like I was gonna barf and like my insides were trembling and this lasted for hours. Am I supposed to feel like that? I am very serious about my goals and will do whatever it takes but to tell you the truth it was kinda scary. I didn't have pain or anything....it was like the opposite. I felt like a limp peice of spaghetti.....with nausea. Am I overdoing it or should I just buck up and deal with it.
Make sure you are eating right, and taking your vitamins! Always eat a small amount of carbs before your workout, and plenty of protein afterwards. Sounds like he may be pushing you a little bit too hard for starting out. Hopefully you will get through it ok.
The best thing you can do is talk to your trainer and tell him thats how you feel. It souns like his intenisity level is too high and you arent quite up to it yet. Its good to have a session like that ocasionally but not all the time.
The occasional nausea after a particularly heavy workout is normal and nothing to worry about. The biggest issue with getting nauseous after a workout is you might lose interest, so turning down the intensity and level of effort is appropriate.
I eat a big meal 1 - 2 hours before a heavy workout or event and it works fine for me.
