    Muscle spasm in my calf

I just finished a month of cutting, so I began to lift heavy again today. I was doing deadlifts, pull-ups, seated cable rows, hammer strength rows, and then I was doing hammer strength lat pull downs as my last exercise. On my third set, as I reached up to grab the right handle, my right calf muscle seized up and I was in excruciating pain for about 5 minutes. Then after, when I could walk again, I applied the foam roll on my right calf for 10-15 minutes or so. Came home and iced it.

So I guess, no leg day for me tomorrow. Anything else I should do besides ice it and foam roll it for the next few days? how long should I lay off leg exercises for? it's still tender when I press the spot.

Was it a Charlie horse? I get them in my calf once in a while. I usually walk it out. Hurts for a bit but it goes away.
    Try stretching it too.

Eating more potassium will also help curb that in the future.

If you don't treat that sucker it's gonna' form adhesions in the muscle tissue making it very hard to lengthen. Also, the fibers in your gastroc. are now in a constant state of flexion. The human body IS NOT designed for that type of contraction and you will form adhesions if not treated and those adhesions will make inelastic tissue and that will alter neuromuscular control and that will alter muscle balance and that will cause trauma to the muscle and that will inflamation and that will cause muscle spasm and that will cause adhecsions making inelastic tissue and that will cause.... I think you get the picture.

    Cumulative injury cycle, I know

I need to buy a foam roller. I'm not working yet, so can't afford physio just yet, so I'd really appreciate any advice on any stretches or activity (like eating bananas, hehe) I can do in the meantime?

proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation or PNF stretching usually helps I would try that with a foam roll you also can get a deep tissue massage.
