Ongoing back problems, any input?

Hi everyone.

My stats are all listed in my signiture for reference. About 3 weeks ago, workouts were going great, was making great progress. I remember one workout in particular, I probably overworked myself, leading off with squats and deadlifts. I made a big jump in weight that day, and on my last set, may have gotten sloppy and sacrificed form on squats. Regardless, the next workout, I noticed a little strange pain, but it didnt really affect my workout, so I moved through it. Next workout, things set in, and I realized something had gone wrong.

The 2 workouts after that, I took it pretty easy, was still able to do lunges for leg work, and upper body was OK. I didn't panic at this point, as I had a week long vacation with my girl in Hilton Head, and I figured it would be good timing to let it heal up, and I'd be ready to dive back into things. Well, as the week went on, some mornings I would wake up and notice that my back just felt like crap, it simply wasn't getting better. After the vacation, yep, back has not improved. I did some body weight squat motions, OK. Did a few with just bar, OK. Put on 25's, and on the second rep, I felt the same spot, lower back, left side, just shoot a little nerve pain, and I racked it up. It doesn't get to the point of bad pain, just uncomfortable.

When I first did hurt it, that was more painful. It was shooting into my left buttcheek, and down into that leg.

Anyways, thanks for reading. I am seeing my doc on Wed. morning, and he will refer me to some specialist I suppose. The only thing I have ever been to a doc for before this is for antibiotics, so I'm a little nervous. I can already see them telling me to stop doing squats and deadlifts, and I just can't live with that answer.

Anyone who has any experience with back issues want to give any input?

Thanks!

ive had the samme problem and not to make u nervous; im still dealing with it. The only thing that has ever worked for me is bodysquats. that is squat without any weight(yawnnnn). if u have a strong back u should recover pretty fast, often its the little muscles holding the spine that arent strong enough. Anyway good luck

my buddy had the same issue 5 years back, he was lifting an aircon unit.
he has been a bodybuilder for 15 years and went through a ton of pain on and off for 10 years before finally having to have an operation, the pain down the leg and butt are the same syptoms he had, turned out to be a herniated disc, over the 5 years it degenerated til it left him immoble and in total agony, get it check out!

here is an article he wrote showing his x-rays etc

Back Pain for People who have tried Everything!

hope it helps, but more to the point hope it is just a muscle strain...ouch!

the fact that it shot down to your thigh isnt a good sign, the further down it goes the worse it is.

What you could have done is kind of herniated your disk which tend to potrude posterioly as its the weakest spot, often compressing the nerver, L5 and s1 being the most common.

to test for L5 compare the strength of both your big toes, and skin sensation on the foot. S1 is plantarflexion of the foot and the lateral side of the foot.

Or you could have stretched the siatic nerve.

Eitherway we'll see how the specialist visit turns out..

Definetely go to check it out... as soon as possible.. because waiting for the injuries to get better by themselfes is not a god idea... and you should see a doctor as soon as possible everytime you get hurt... cause old injuries can "bury" you... it's really annoying when every bone in your body hurts you and that is what happens if you dont heal your injuries.. so good luck and get medical attention
