HIIT or is it?

I am currently weighing 72 kg and have come to a bit of a halt, i have done my first session of what i thought , think was HIIT.

5 min warm up

2 min jogging at 7 mph
1 min running 9
and so on for 20 mins and then 5 min cool down, is this ok and will it fat loss?

Technically, that is not HIIT. I mean, its all relative depending on the condition of the person, but my question is this. While running at 9 mph, are you pushing yourself to the absolute max? HIIT is all about going to your bodys outer limit, you should finish and barely be able to walk. I can run at 9 mph for miles, so for me, an all out sprint at 12-14 mph would be my HIIT level...

Make sure you are pushing to your limit.

The High Intensity part of HIIT should only last 10-30 seconds. You can not sprint all out for any longer than that. If you could, the world record holders in the 100M dash would also be the world record holders in the 200M and 400M and ..., because they could just keep sprinting at the same speed for a longer period. But they are not, even these world class atheletes with the best genetics, the best trainers, the optimal diet and nothing else to do but train for sprinting can not keep up a 100% sprint pace for more than 10-30 seconds.

Make sure your diet and weight lifting are in check, you need to have both in order during fat loss. HIIT goes hand in hand with those 2. If you are doing proper HIIT, being beaten to crap after you are done, you will have significantly heightened EPOC levels for hours even after completing the short session. EPOC is short for Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption, which means you body is effectively using oxygen and you are burning calories at a higher rate. Doing HIIT 2-3 times a week to the max will net you great results. But remember, you get out what you put in.
