HIIT on a track oval

Hi,

I've just recently been a HIIT convert for less than a week now, having done the regular 30 minute steady state running for almost four months (5x a week).

I do my routine in an Olympic-size track oval where I blast it out at the straights and walk on the curves. I do this cycle 7-8 times. I have a hard time keeping track of the minutes while doing the sprints thats why i decided to do this routine instead. Am i doing it right? Is this a form of HIIT? Any suggestions?

you have made a wise choice by choosing the oval track. The square ones require that you slow way down in order to make the turns.

Sounds like you are doing it right.. As long as you are truly sprinting -- as fast as you can go on the straight portion and walking to recoup. I personally wouldn't be able to pick back up and run the very next straight section at a full blown sprint, but I haven't been running like you have for the last 4 months either.

Push yourself to your limit and then beyond on your sprints, and then recoup and it seems like you have it.

When I did HIIT, I was sprinting at 12mph on the treadmill for 15-20 seconds and then walking for like 1.5 mins to cool down before I began again.

Good Luck.
