| | | What kind of HIIT stuff can you do at the gym? Are there any effective HIIT exercises that can be done in the gym? Treadmill is a no go due to the difficulty of the controls at an extremely fast pace. Haven't really tried it on any other machine. I normally do my HIIT outdoors but I need something for the incoming winter season. Tips? Ideas? |

| | Ellipctical, rower, bike, etc.
It's all about effort and heart rate, so anything you can do as SS cardio, you can do as HIIT. |

| | | Treadmill Everything in this thread seems to state that you have to go "all out" for 10 secs to 1 min. I am a little scared to go over 10 miles per hour on the treadmill because of the threat of falling. But this is not hard enough for me. Any thoughts? |

| | | I have done it on the treadmill (yes, running on those things at 10 mph is a little scary at first, but just be careful), the stepper is effective as hell, bike is good too... |

| | | Well, the ones at my gym max out at 10 mph, which is decent. I'd be better served going on a track since I feel like I might be able to sprint at 11 mph or better, but it works fine for me. |

| | I've recently found that the stairmaster works well for me for hiit. I set it on manual and do:
1 minute warm up at level 10
30 secs at lvl 1
30 secs at lvl 20
30 secs at 1
30 secs at 20
45 secs at 1
30 secs at 20
1 min at 1
30 secs at 20
1 min at 1
30 sec at 20
2 min cooldown at 3
My heartrate gets up to about 95% of my max.
This seems to be safer than the treadmill and more intense than the stationary bike. |

--matt | I have used a rower. It's a good one, but since HIIT is all about heart rate and intervals rather than any particular form of cardio, the best one is going to be the one you use regularly.
However, avoid the recumbent bike and go with an upright, if you go with a bike. |

| | Do you have to be on level 10 for HIIT? I usually run between 6.5 - 7.2 and that is EXTREMELY tough for me to do. Granted, im doing my HIIT for 5 minutes..maybe I should go faster for a shorter time? |

At my highest intensity, I would not be able to run for 5 minutes...
i ususally do just 1 min per interval..
but it really depends on your heart rate
