4 month goals: prepare for Olympic length triathlon in Las Vegas in October. This will require me to swim, run and bike at least twice (preferably more) per week each event. I need to put in at least one 5 - 6 mile run, one 25 mile ride and one 1 mile swim each week as these are the Olympic length distances. Ideally, I would like to find time and energy to do 3 miles swimming, 100 miles on the bike and 20 miles running per week.
I would like to continue working on my bench press, deadlift, bent over rows, squat, and pullups but am willing to sacrifice them to get in "triathlete" shape. So, weights at this time are a goal that I cannot promise.
Swam 1 mile in pool using pull buoy: 50 minutes. This is the third mile that I have swum in the last week and this was definitely easier than the others. Stationary bike: 30 minutes.
Weights 4x/wk with bicycling (staionary or on the road) 4x/wk
**one athletic event each weekend whether it be a long bike ride, mountain biking, running etc. Something to change it up a bit and keep me going.
Eating - Clean it up, period. Goal calorie range is 2000 calories/day. Document on fitday and post link in my journal for viewing/advice etc.
3 month goal - 210 pounds. That's right at 10 pounds per month which is a reasonable goal provided I do my part.
I will find some sort or athletic event whether it be a 5k, a long bike ride or possibly a mini duathlon/triathlon for me to compete in. I will need help training for this as I've not done anything like this before.
That gives everyone an idea of where I am and where I want to be. Check out my journal for further info.
Nice job G8R. Way to make it your priority. That's impressive!
I'm going to go ahead and workout right now. I've got some yard work to do for one of my old customers (from Sysco) and figure I won't want to do it when I get home. So, I'm off to the races. 30 minutes on the bike then probably a 20 minute super set workout - Legs.
1800 yard pool swim. First 500 yards were lackadaisical with stops after each 100 yards. Then, I got serious and did the next 600 yards non-stop, rested for 1 minute, and did the last 700 yards non-stop. I focused on form and pulling. I used a pull buoy but next time will do it with zoomers per Sparrow's direction.
In the evening, 3.1 miles on treadmill. Roads were wet. 9 minute miles.
1200 yards in the pool using the blue Zoomers. These wear me out faster than the pull buoy but I go faster - 25 seconds / 25 yards. Then, 100 yards with nothing and I remembered how bad of a swimmer I am without "enhancements", i.e., pull buoy, Zoomers, or a wetsuit.
lat pulldowns: 10x3
bench press: 135x6, 155x6, 135x6
33 minutes on stationary bike - busted my @$$ but was 2 minutes off my pb on this particular ride - rats!
Rode 4 miles home.
I am gonna sign up for a sprint triathlon in Boulder, Colorado, September 6. I will be in Boulder until September 5 anyways, so this is just 1 more day. This is a long sprint - 750m fresh water wetsuit legal swim in a reservoir, 26mile bike (longer than an olympic length bike) and 4 mile run.
My brother wanted to do a relay in which I would swim, he would ride and a friend of his would run, but I blew him off. He can get his own team - find your own swimmer I say! I am gonna do this one myself.
Also, I am contemplating a bike race August 9, but I don't know if I am ready (like that ever stopped me before).
I fly to Alaska tomorrow, so nothing from me until Monday. We'll call Sunday a (much-needed) rest day.

Way to go!
How do the zoomers help? I would think they would make your legs work harder, wearing you out quicker, but that must not be the case. I doubt I would have any luck finding any that would fit me anyway though.

It is my understanding that the Zoomers allow you to get the feel of the water and helps develop the leg musculature and ankle flexibility so that your muscles "remember" how to kick when you don't have the zoomers. Yes, they work my legs harder than when pull buoy, obviously, but not as hard as when I don't use anything at all.
