getting ready for marine basic training (june 4th) okay so june 4th is approaching.
so far i have a perfect score for my IST (initial strength test)
i can do:
over 30 pullups
over 160 situps in 2 mins.
run 1.5 miles in less then 10 mins
but i have to work on my running before i leave i will start running more may 1st i haven't kept up with it because i wanted to gain muscle faster.
today was a crazy workout because i was kind of pissed of nothing went right today so i just pushed myself a lot.
the highlight of my workout was, i was doing weighted pullups 1st i warmed up did 12 pullups withought weight. then i stuck a 45 on a chain that hung from my waist. did 10 reps. then added 10 lbs did 8 reps. then i had 45 and a 25 lb weight on there did 5 1/2 reps then i put a 35 and a 45 and did 3 1/2 reps was pretty insane :-p awesome feeling hehe.
ive earned a rest day tomorrow i think :-s (yesterday did legs have trouble walking now :-/ ) -
The One Arm Chin-up/Pull-up
im going to use this site.. wouldnt hurt being able to do a couple of one arm pullups before i leave -
What ever you do though, don't, for christ sake, pull your shoulder. That happened to me when I was doing one handed pullups last year. Right before a huge tennis tournament. -
actually, my left shoulder since doing those pullups has been sore. i took a rest day yesterday. was suppose to do chest today but i dont want to mess it up. soo ill just do abs today i suppose :-/
ripp em up then hit chest hard tomorrow. -
I went to Marine boot camp many decades ago, but I doubt it has changed much since then. You will find in general running and endurance will be much more emphasized than strength. I would suggest you do as much running as you can before you get there as well as keeping up your strength training. Remember the later fitness tests will be 3 mile runs, and you will do a lot of marching with a heavy pack on your back and rifle in your hands. as well as being sleep deprived a lot of the time. I would recommend running at least 3 days a week, 1 day 3 miles, 1 day wind sprints (HIIT), 1 day a longer run (work up to at least 6 miles). Good luck and Sempre Fi. Boot camp sucks, but it onlty lasts a few weeks and after it is over you will never regret you did it. -
Matt here's the one who used to run 12 miles for fun! At this point, I don't think you really "need" to prepare at all... -
hehe you put a smile on my face lei :-)
alrite dswithers ill start runnin' tomorrow. saying that makes me want to start tonight actually. hmm wellz good idea ^_^ imana hydrate for 2 hours then hit it up. thanks for the advice bro.
on saturday morning we had a competition with the future marines of all of florida,we rss fort lauderdale came in second to last place.. non the less i did 29 pullups i did porly in my crunches... only did 120 in 2 mins. but the thing is i was doing situps as everyone else was doing crunches.. looked at someone else do them and they looked they they were spazing out.. i saw barly any ab work.. whiles i was smashing myself againts the ground so that i can go faster.. :-o Similar Threads -
