| | | Perfecting my plan, now to implement! How easily things get off track. I've been taking a look at what gets me off track and figuring out how to deal with it. Prior practice was to have a bad day for some reason or just get really bored with nothing to do, get pi**ed off, drink 6-8 beers, get the munchies and eat everything in the house. I've got a great "BodySolid" machine that just sits in the den because i don't use it. I think I've got A.D.D. big time and I've got to be doing something all the time or I go nuts. I honestly think the alcohol gives me some kind of stimulation that my body craves. (don't get me wrong, I don't lay around in a drunken stupor all the time I've just developed some really bad habits I need to change) This is the same stimulation that I used to get from going to the gym. I tend to feel guilty about spending so much time away from the family when I go to the gym. It always ends up that I simply quit going due to my guilt and then fall back into the same situation as described above.
NEW PLAN OUTLINED
1. Eat well. Easy enough, I'm a registered dietitian so I've got the knowledge just lacking in the action part right now.
2. Come home help out with family stuff, ya know, put my 2 cents worth in around the house.
3. Work out on the machine I bought long ago but haven't used much.
Seems like this will solve the problems mentioned above. Once I workout I don't have the desire to drink, I'm just too damn tired. My body wants to shower and go to bed. If I don't drink, I don't get the munchies so the food should take care of itself.
Funny how it takes so long to figure things out. I was convinced that I had to go to the gym to get results but i couldn't make that work. Looking back it was pretty simple to identify the problems and figure out a way to make it work. The only thing I lack now is an exercise bike. Problem solved soon. I'll update soon, wish me luck, Greg |

| | First workout last night, chest, tri's, back and bi's. Slept like a friggin log. Will rest tonight and then work legs, traps and shoulders on Wednesday night and repeat the above on Friday. I'm in the market for an exercise bike now and will incorporate cardio on Tuesdays and Thursdays once I get it. Ate a small bowl of life cereal this morning and am taking a couple of bananas, nutri grain bar and granola bar with me in my truck. I've really been craving salad lately so if I'm not home by lunch I'll swing by somewhere and have some sort of salad with a reduced fat or fat free dressing. I'm going to continue eating small frequent, meals.
I finally feel good about working out at home. Previously I didn't think I could because of all the interuptions. But, last night went well and I just kind of dealt with the small distractions. I still feel I can get a really good workout without the guilt (my fault, I know) of being gone from the house while my wife deals with everything around here. I'll continue to post and see how I progress. See ya, Greg |

| | | Second of three workouts completed. Leg presses, leg extensions, leg curls and calves. I did some shrugs and side raises to round out my workout. Chest, tri's, bi's and back tomorrow night.
Still in the market for a stationary bike. I might sell my road bike and buy a nice stationary. We'll see. I might consider a recumbent stationary to keep pressure of "the boys". I didn't like them at 1st but don't like the numbness created by some stationaries.
Diet is fair. I'm not hitting it too hard right now. I'm concentrating on cutting out the crap and including more fresh fruits and vegetables. I've got a couple of co-workers that are trying to get fit also so they'll be one of my motivating factors.
Will report tomorrow night after my workout. Thanks, Greg |

| | | I'm going to amp it up a little here. Let me know if you think I'm doing too much but I think I'll be OK. Instead of working out 3 days per week, I'm going to do 5. Until I get a stationary bike, i am going to work chest, tri's, bi's, back on Monday, Wednesday, Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday I'll work quads, hams, calves, shoulders and traps. I'm averaging about 6 sets per bodypart. Since I'm getting back into it, my first few workouts have been a lot about figuring out what weight I need to use. When I am able to get a bike, I'll incorporate that after most workouts, around 30 minutes or so is my guess. Provided my diet is adequate, is this too much? Let me know. I appreciate the input. | | | I'm sticking to my guns so far. I worked chest, tri's, back and bi's last night. Tonight I did quads, hams, calves, traps and shoulders. I'm really enjoying it and don't feel the self initiated guilt of going to the gym that I used to feel. Working out at night also keeps me from getting bored sitting around the house and takes away the urge to drink beer (out of boredom and being irritated that everyone else is content to sit around, lol, but a previous problem). I was interrupted twice by my wife tonight but immediately voiced my concern. I don't think this will be much of a problem. Even if it happens periodically, it will be worth it since I'm not having any guilt associated with working out at home. I have noticed that I will need to invest in some dumbbells for my shoulder work. Other than that and a stationary bike, all is well. I'll post back tomorrow night. Thanks, Greg |

| | | Thanks guys. I fought so hard to try and not work out at home for some reason. Then, working out at the gym didn't work well. I thought I was doomed. I finally made up my mind that I could work out at home and deal with the distractions here and there. I've really enjoyed last week and this week so far. I can't believe it took me so long to come to the realization that I had to work within my situation to be successful. Thanks for all the support already. Take care and stay focused. Greg |

| | | Work out finished. It was actually kind of fun. Chest, tri's, back and bi's. Got to hand out candy to the trick or treaters during my workout 'cause my machine is right by the door. Pushed up all the weights 10-20 pounds and am really starting to get the pump going. It's a good feeling to be pushing myself and abstaining from bad habits. Thanks for all the encouragement. As Chillen says "I ROCK". Thanks again, Greg |

| | | 236.5 this a.m. Not too busy of a day at work. Gonna knock that out then come home, cook dinner and rock the frickin house down with some legs, shoulders and traps. Need to stop by Hibbets or somewhere today and pick up some dumbbells for shoulders. We'll see what I can find. Don't need much now, maybe some 20's or 25's so I can keep excellent form (I'm really anal about proper form!!!). Really would like some 60's or 70's for traps but that will take a little brown nosing. Eating cleaner each day. Had one, 100 calorie package, of "whoppers" yesterday but that was the extent of the halloween candy. Keeping healthy snacks with me during the day which makes it so much easier when I do get hungry. Continuing the rockin' progress. I do need to concentrate on some better snacks between workout and bed, any ideas? Right now I'm usually eating a piece of whatever "meat" we had for dinner. It keeps me full so I don't go to bed hungry and I'm not starving in the morning. I'm open, shoot me some other ideas.
