Hey man, I just popped in to see what was going on. I still feel pretty sh#$ty . I'm pretty sure I've had well under 1000 calories so far. I usually have 2100-2400 under my belt this time of day.
Have a good run. I'm going to try to get some rest
to answer your trainign plan question:
I like to train for a race length- then the mileage comes into play for planning. Formula wise I find the best for me, and many others is-
pace training 2 of the 5 days
speed training 1 of the 5 days
long run 1 of the five days
recovery run 1 of the 5 days.
Meaning
using RPE I set a run amount of time.
Let's say comfortable, 3-4 word sentence breathing- run 40 minutes. For me that is about 6 miles. For you that may be 3. BUT- you are not there yet. If you pick your race, then we know about what length of elevated heart rate time you need to be able to handle.
I think you are headed for a 10K in short time. Try to develop an 11mm run pace. an 11 min runner is not bad. so, for you 6.48 mile (10K) you will need to run for 75 minutes. Go out and try to run half that for now.
run 20 minutes away from the house, and then back 20 minutes. Develop a pace that allows you to do that comfortable.
RUNNING WELL IS ALL ABOUT CONTROL! Control is in pace, pace is in the breath, and the breath is what we train.
Damn, I have to be honest with you; I wasn't planning on running 5 days a week. I was planning on 3 days...basically replacing my indoor cardio with outdoor running and still using the elliptical if the weather was too bad.
I guess I need to decide if I'm OK with limiting my running to what I can train for with 3 days per week or trying to revamp my whole system.
I've been lifting 3 days per week and doing cardio 3 days per week and one day of rest. I hate doubling up workouts in one day because it's best for me to get up before the kids (and my wife for that matter) and get done while I have only that to focus on.
I really don't know. This is all so new. Short term I want to do the 10K like you said. Long term, who knows, maybe I'll reach marathon distance one day. I'll just have to see how I progress

I guess I have to admit I'm still sick now. I could only eat half my breakfast and I couldn't even run a mile. I'm so bummed. I'm supposed to race on Friday
I'll post again when I'm not such a sickly little biatch
I was afraid I had the flu, but apparently what happened is the stomach virus taxed my immune system and I got a major sinus infection on top of it. I should be over it by then. I broke down and started taking medicine.
I feel my appetite coming back today (I've lost 2 1/2 lbs) and I don't feel as weak as I did.
Just checking in. Sucks that you still crappy, but I hope you're pulling out of it. I'm on my way to play some hoops for a couple hours, should be a nice cardio session.
I lifted this morning. It was an abbreviated workout and a wimpy performance, but I'm still thrilled. It's a huge improvement I could do anything.
I plan to run either tonight or tomorrow morning.
I'm having sort of a delayed reaction weight loss. Yesterday was the first day I got in all my calories yet I weigh 1.5 lbs less than yesterday. That puts me down 4 lbs in 5 days. Even though I'm eating at maintenance I'm hoping I'll actually put it back on... the body tends to search for equilibrium after an abrupt weight loss like that.
