| | I'm 14 and I need to get fit Basics: 5'7", 145 lbs. & 13% BF.
I don't look fat...But I'm not happy with my body. I just want to stay fit and have some definition. I have an operation on the 27th and will have to stay in bed for 2 weeks. So I'm thinking of starting at the beginning of the school year. My high school has a gym so I could take an hour every Mon, Tues, and Fri. Also, I have this 'condition' called Precatious Puberty. It means that my body thinks I'm older than I actually am. In short, I hit puberty earlier than other kids. I recently visited my doctor and she said that my growth spurt is coming to an end soon. So technically I have the body, or physique of a 16 year old. So does anyone have, say like a routine that I could do to stay fit and get some definition? Again, my school has a gym, but I, personally, don't have any equipment except for a chin-up bar than can be changed into a crunches bar and I have 2 five pound dumbbells. Any advice would be great! |

| | | First off, welcome to the forum.
Secondly, you should be aware that you posted your topic in the "Photo Gallery" forum. Seeing as you have no photos, perhaps you forgot them, I don't know, it's irrelevant to have your topic here.
Finally, again welcome. I'm not necessarily one you should take final advice from - I'm a rookie to the fitness world as well. But, since you're only 14, I would suggest simply working out regularly, doing a basic routine.
I'm 20, same height as you and I'm pretty much aiming for the ficinity of your weight. At the moment, I'm only 120 or so, sadly. 145, I would theoretically think is a good weight to work with. One of my friends is 145 and 5'7, as well. He's much older though, so I'm not sure how that differs. I've been reading up a lot, and given your situation, I would personally suggest crunches and pilates. I'm not sure what surgery you're getting but if it's intense, this would be a relatively easy way to get your stomach in tone without an enormous amount of strain. Pilates will help a lot with your back alignment and also work with your abdominals.
However, I'm sure if you're patient, perhaps post in a different area of the forums, you might get more and better feedback. |

| | | I'm not sure what to tell you about your operation, other than to ask your doctor whether or not it will be safe for you to lift afterwards and how long you should wait to lift.
I don't think pilates will help you. I would do weight lifting once you get started.
I'm sure you've heard this but I suggest a full body workout 3x a week. search up FBW or full body workout in the forums and you should find some good ones.
FBW generally consist of core exercises such as (but not limited to) squats, deadlifts, bench press (or any kind of push really, overhead press, incline/decline press, dumbbell chest press), bent over rows, dips, and chinups. It is important to work the whole body. |
