8th Continent "Light" Soy Milk? Good or bad for you?

I've heard from several people that you should avoid foods that are processed to be "Light". Is soy milk an exception, like skim milk? I used to drink skim but last time I went shopping I bought some 8th Continent "Light" Soy Milk. It's pretty good, I think I could make a permanent switch, but I wanted to make sure that this stuff was really good for me. It's got 60 cals, 20 fat cals, 6.25g protien, 5g carbs in 8 ounces.

Sugar?

How much sugar is in each serving? That's the only thing that can potentially be "bad." Otherwise, I think it's good for you!

4 grams of sugar in the vanilla flavor.

There's only 1 gram of sugar in the original flavor, but the vanilla is actually lower in fat.

Anyone tried the original? Does it taste like milk, or is it gross?

I think it all depends on your tastes. The jury is still out on the benefits of so much soy. I eat soy often though. I am a vegetarian so a lot of my diet is soy based.

With that said, I do drink skim milk. The only reason I have ever heard things that are "Light" being bad for you is becuse the "Light" label is misleading. It causes you to believe it is healthier for you... and that is not necessarily the case.

It may have less calories, but it could include more sugars. It may be "low fat" but include more calories. It may say "All Natural" but contain processed ingredients.

Food companies know how to get around laws and regulations. I recommend drinking the milk you enjoy most. So long as it is part of a healthy diet... you're fine.

Oh good, because in attempting to get myself to eat breakfast, I started having a glass of chocolate soy milk. Now I love the stuff.

i'm a vegetarian as well and use a lot of soy in my diet. i think 8th continent's soymilk is very good - use it quite a bit myself. the only negative thing i've heard about "light" soymik is that it contains less of the ingredient that scientists believe makes soy important to have in your diet. that said though, i use both light & the regular kind.
