Confusion about GI

I've been doing some research on the glycemic index and found some strange things...

Many things that are commonly believed about it are apparently untrue.

From the databases I've seen the following things were observed:

There is very little difference in GI between white and brown rice, but Basmati or Doongara rice are best

There is very little difference in GI between whole wheat and conventional pasta

A bowl of Cheerios (made from whole grains)has a much higher GI than a bowl of ice cream

A can of coke is only medium GI

It wasn't a question, just dispelling common assumptions about GI

I've never focused on the specific GI rating of foods, for the most part. If those are accurate, then I guess that would be a good reason not to anyway.

One thing I've noticed is that since the GI diet has gotten around, there are people who think it's some cool, new thing. The Glycemic Index isn't some hot new thing, it's been around long before somebody cashed in on it to form a diet. People have that tendecncy anyway, hell, I have a friend who acts like Bill Phillips invented interval training in Body for Life.

Anyway, whole grain pastas and all that generally have a higher fiber content that I've seen, which is a good reason to eat them, imo, - GI or not.

I agree with all that. Just like people think Adkins invented the ketonic diet.

I just think it shows losing weight and being lean is all about calories. What you eat is good for general health however.
