Diet Mountain Dew, bad, or ok?
So a few friends came over the other night and one of them brought diet mountain dew as a mixer. Everyone was drinking and i acted like i drank by having some diet mountain dew. lol, people just thought i put vodka in it. Personally, i think drinking alcohol while lifting is counter productive, which is why i stay away from it.
Anyway, i really liked the diet mountain dew. I don't have any sugar a day, so diet mountain dew was sweet to me...I know this is due to the aspartame which is in it...But, how bad is diet mountain dew for you? I wouldn't mind having some every now and then, just for something else other than water all the time. It has 0 calories, so why should i gain weight drinking it?
I lift weights 3 times a week and do cardio/abs 2 days a week. So, i workout a total of 5 days a week and currently i'm eating over maintenance to gain a little weight.
What do you think, keep drinking water and forget about the diet mountain dew, or a little bit won't hurt me?
I don't understand the side effects...
I heard aspartame makes your brain bleed. ha ha, in any case, i stay away from aspartame because its bad for you. but then so is most of the air we breathe. Its like some people allow themselves a cheat day, maybe you can allow yourself 1 soda per week. If your diet is in mint condition, then it wont "hurt" you to have a small amount of soda, but it will def "help" you to not drink any at all. Just like peoples cheat days will help them to not have those days and stick to a completely healthy diet. Sodas have 0 nutrional value.
Let me put this rather simply in the context of simple weight loss/weight gain perspective:

I drank (and still do) Crystal light (where you have to make it with water) during workouts, when I get tired of the bland taste of water, and have done this (occasionally) throughout my weight loss (and into single digits) without an known side effects. As a comparison. If one is really concerned about "aspertame", then one should watch their cheeseburgers (etc, as an example), and other content of their meals (such as alcohol) as well, if you "really" want to get serious--about health aspects relating to food consumption. If you get what I am saying.

It's nothing to worry about. Lots of dieters drink diet soda, some people on here do for sure. Aspartame is perfectly fine to drink unless you are allergic to phenylalanine, in which case it can kill you, because it breaks down into aspartic acid and phenylalanine. This is the reason aspartame has a bad rep. People hear about some rare adverse reaction and assume its dangerous. By that logic, peanut butter is deadly and everyone should stay away from it! And of course once something gets a bad rep, rumors and misinformation is spread like crazy.
Anyway, it's not helping your nutrition, but it isn't hurting it either. If it keeps you from going crazy, or drinking real soda, or just helps you stay on track with your diet, then by all means drink away!
during my Ironman event, at mile 56 I drank a diet Mountain dew. SO- I had swam 2.4 miles, and ridden 56 and I had some Dew, and a snickers, and after that I rode anothe r56 and then ran a marathon!
Stick with the dew!
oh,,, forgot to mention-- I am advanst in dumb. So, take my advice for what that is worth.
