Do starches make you store fat?

I know white flour is something to stay away from but do all starches such as Whole Grain Pasta, Whole Grain Bread, Brown Rice, and what not cause you to store excess fat?

Anything will make you gain weight if you eat a good amount of it. Whole Grain products are better, just eat them in moderation

No, they don't. Excess calories that aren't burned are what make you store fat.

Whole grain is better because it is higher in nutrients and fiber and is less processed. Processing removes a lot of the nutrients and the "best part" of the grain.

pretty much covered but just wanted to add, any excess calories of anything will get stored, but lets say im on a bulk and Im taking in 500calories xtra, the difference btwn whole grain products and refined products is that a larger ratio of whole grain products will get stored as muscle rather than fat, if you are on at a defecit know matter what you eat it will not get stored as fat the more refined products you eat will cause a greater loss of lean muscle mass.
