eating past 8...?

Is it true what they say about eating past 7 or 8 aclock, so is it true that it is bad for you to eat at night when cutting weight/lowering body fat? or does it differ on when you wake up in the day and all that?

its a myth.

i would advise avoiding a lot of starchy carbs later in the day if you're trying to lean out, but it depends on what time of day you train, because you need starchy carbs pre and post workout to properly re-fuel the body.

eating at night doesn't make you fat. eating too many calories, regardless of time of day or type of calorie, is what makes you gain fat.

If you are going to eat something after 8, rice and potatoes are the LAST thing you want to eat!!! Try a lean meat/fish & some veggies. The body's ability to digest carbs decreases after about 6. If you want to have a carb, that's fine, but try something like beans or quinoa. It's 9pm now and I'm having (finished workout at 8:15) Grilled Turkey Breast with a steamed spinach/quinoa mix and avocado spread on the Turkey.

I agree about eating a lean meat/fish and veg at night if you want to avoid carbs....

But the body has less ability to burn carbs after about 6pm?? Why would the time make any difference? You are going to burn less calories in general at night because chances are you won't be as active, unless you workout late at night...so it would be the fact you are WAY less active at night that would mean you would not use the energy you got from the carbs, not specifically because it is after 6pm.

I don't know if you just worded it wrong, or if you are right and I am wrong....I just don't see how the body would lose the ability to burn carbs after 'about 6pm'.

Not trying to start an argument, I don't have time for those on here, but just checking if I am right or not....

Actually no offense taken at all. I do remember reading that point somewhere recently; it was a reputable source. I will try to dig up the source and cite the claim. 6pm seems like a good rule of thumb anyway

I've personally never had any problems with eating complex carbs after 6 but I generally won't eat much of anything past 8 or 9. If I do have a carb, I have a small amount and wait a couple of hours before I go to bed.

Yes, Eggs are fine IMHO. In fact, I've been known to have an omlette with veggies & cheese after a late work out when I don't feel like cooking afterwords.

Agreed 100%. Don't get so caught up in worrying about what you eat at night. Just because you are sleeping, doesn't mean your body isn't using nutrients. (as has been stated, 2 buttery potatoes before bed isn't the best idea though)

In the end of the 24 hour day, all that calorically matters is the law of energy balance: Whether you Maintained an approximate balance, surplus, or deficit. When we are talking Gain or Loss of Tissue weight.

Dependent upon age, sex, wgt, and other biological factors, on average a person burns 60 to 80 calories per hour when sleeping: take this approximated number times the number of hours of sleep will give one a rough idea how many calories were burned during this segment of the 24 hour cycle clock.

Eating before bed should not hurt your progress if your sensible about it and know your caloric ingestion during the day and when your 24 hour clock cycle began.

I cycle my clock, and sometimes it ends at 9PM in the evening (at 9p the clock ended for the---day before, and a new day begins). I have consumed 800 calories before bed (good clean food WITH carbs), and lost weight on a regular basis---because the end result of the day was a deficit balance. Im not advocating 800c before bed, this was an example.

Brown Rice contains complex carbs, and these are slow releasing carbs. If your not overly sensitive to carbs, complex carbs should be okay.
