If you want to "detoxify" your body; drink an insane amount of water without doing any harm, drink a lot of certain fruit juices and drink a lot of green tea. I saw this done on that show with Jack Osborne. It was the episode where he was training for Muay Thai.

It would disrupt it and cause it to slow down in the immediate time frame. Once you start eating again, it would most likely process the food very quickly, and turning it to fat. I would think it would take a couple days to get it back on track.

yep, you guys are perfectly correct - you have obviously never seen an alcoholic or heavy steroid user in cronic back pain and with yellowed eyes.

People's systems get overloaded over time, ok if you do not agree but there are many of people who do agree with me - in fact it was a former Mr. Universe that told me to start taking Milk Thistle tablets to help with some backpains I was having - turned out my kidneys were hurting - I stopped drinking and took the tabs and the pain went away.

If you don't believe me search on some of hte alcoholic forums.

What does this have to do with eating watermelon for five days? All I need to know about eating watermelon I learned from classy Petey Greene:

Please define "overloaded". Perhaps you can get the definition from Mr. Universe. I am sure he was Dr. Universe, right?

By the way, I heard that taking steroids makes your hair and pee-pee go away. Can you confirm this?

In case you were wondering, milk thistle has no benefit:

I am sure alcoholics are chock full of quality medical advice. Which of the 12 steps is "become a medical expert"?

Never heard of Petey Green, but that was funny.

Extreme bodybuilders do all sorts of unhealthy things to their bodies that no doubt start to screw them up (like chronic steroid use). Dedicating one's life to the artificial enhancement and over development of muscles has little to do with health. So, while I'm sure these people have loads of info on how best to achieve this, what is healthy and good for the body is not their strong suit.

If you live a reasonable healthy lifestyle, then "detox" is not a real issue. However, if you spend your life destroying your body with alcohol, chemicals, steroids, drug use, etc, then I don't really have a hard time believing that it does, in fact, screw up your liver. I don't, however, believe that eating watermelon for a few days will repair the damage being done to it.

So, maybe there is some anecdotal "proof" that it works, sort of like there is anecdotal proof that "Metabo4000 Extreme Fat Loss Now!" works too, and we all know that is reliable that is.

I find that fasting is very invigirating.
I weigh 64 kgs and 6 ft 3 and am very active, but I find after a fast of at least 48 hours, my body feels better.
I've also done longer fasts, usually 7 days and 10 days and feel fine after 3 days. Also it helps clean the system out and I feel great afterwards.
I know I'm underweight, but people say as long as I don't make myself ill, there is no harm, as long as you let your body tell you when it's enough.
True, my weight drops a little and my waist/hips shrink even further, but am very fit and run xc competively. I've even done a race during a 5-day fast and came 2nd in the race. Also I'm never sick and eat heathly otherwise.

A reason that you might find it "invigorating" is the fact that because your body has so little to run on, and actually doing damage to itself, that your brain releases endorphins to combat the pain, giving you a somewhat positive feeling. This is a theory as to why it is so hard to get people that are anorexic to change, because they become addicted to the endorphins and actually feel good because they are not eating. Listen to derwyddon man.
