Question fish oil vs. seal oil

I just wanted to hear people's thoughts on which is healthier and for what reasons. Let the discussion begin!

I haven't heard of people using seal oil. Do you have any information about it? Doesn't sound comparable as seals are mammals and fish are well, fish.

Well for ethical reasons, fish. For healthy reasons, fish also. I think there must be a reason for fish oil being recommended by organizations such as the American Heart Foundations. Toxins in seals could be a problem and probably don't have as much healthy fats if any than fish oil.

seal oil sounds like one of those 'ancient oriental secrets' for some bull**** reason...and nothing 'healthy'

Here's the nutritional info on a 500mg capsule of seal oil.

Formula/capsule: 500mg 100% Natural Seal Oil
Capsule Shell: Gelatin, Glycerin, Purified Water
Calories: 5kCal/capsule
Total Omega 3 Content: 21-25%
DPA 4.7% DHA 8.9% EPA 7.6%
Squalene 2.5% Vitamin E 0.5%

Here's a link I found that says that seal oil is actually better than fish oil. I'm not sure if it's right so I wanted to see what other people think.

Seal Oil

And I live in Newfoundland and a lot of people take seal oil. I guess you could call it a cultural thing.

So basically there's only 15mg of DHA and EPA in one capsule, that's pathetically woefull. The tablets I take, they have 500mg. And the link you gave is from a seal oil company, so of course they're going to try and promote their product.

I find the idea of taking seal oil unsettling but then as you say, it's cultural. Fish oil seems to have better studies behind it and more health benefit.

Brand spanking new

Hi there,
I'm new here and am hoping to learn much and pass on any useful info that I can .. Seal oil apparently has high amounts of DPA's (an important part of the omega 3 chain) that are in very low in fish oil .. check out website - Fish Oil vs. Seal Oil as Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids .. the jargon is a little heavy but you can get the jest of what's going on ..

Not true in Canada. Clubbing seals is illegal up here. The footage they use on TV of people clubbing seals is old. I don't know about anywhere else but that's how it is here.

My comment was a joke. Next time I'll include a smiley face with my smart remarks.
