How long does it take to get into Ketosis?

I started doing KETO for my cut and so far its going really well. The past 2 days my only carbs have come from vegetables. Each day I probably had 25 or less.

I also have been eating more fats like Olive Oil and nuts and definetely alot more protein.

So I' been on this for 2 days- how do I even know I'm in this?

I know you can buy keto sticks you pee on. Cost and where to get them I don't know.

Wal Mart pharmacy behind the counter of by the diabetic stuff. $7.00 for 50 of them. Work pretty good.

Also I heard in light of the holiday that if you cheat, exceed the ketosis threshold of carbs, it can take up to 3 days for your body to go back to burning phat.

Also I heard that the strips color (strength of response) can be affected by, working out (consuming fuel), excessive water consumption and other things. I just check my urine once in a while to make sure I'm in fat burning mode.

okay thanks. I'll assume about a week I guess.

So far no fatigue- I heard people get headaches and start getting tired from the lack of carbs.

I got no Fats in the house , past 2 days I have gotten out to go buy some.

edit: How much carbs is too many carbs? Today I had about 45-50. Will that bring me out of Ketosis or hinder my progression towards ketosis?

IMO actually being in ketosis isn't really that important, you will get the benefit of a low carb diet as long as you are under 100 grams of carbs or so split evenly through the day made up mostly of fibrous veggies.

While its true that for some individuals, all they need to do is lower their carbohydrates (after experimentation) to obtain a desirable result, others may be required to enter ketosis to solicit the stubborn body fat the body tends to covet for dear life and get to an even lower desirable Body fat percentage.

Some can just calorie deficit and correspond a correct fitness program.

Some have to lower carbohydrates to a certain level (above ketosis) coupled with a calorie deficit, and corresponding fitness program to get what they want.

Some have to calorie deficit, lower carbohydrates to a "personal" level to enter ketosis, coupled with a fitness program to get what they want.

Bottom line: It just depends on the person, and their respected goal wants, and "position" in their fitness goals.

Best wishes to all of you,

    Chillen

Well for me I can still burn fat with 100 carbs or less. But I burn fat faster when I have lower carbs. But when my progress starts slowing down any I just eat even less carbs.

Should I recarb every now and then though? I usually eat 20-60 a day and recarb with 100 every now and then but is that too little?

Thus the POWER of learning your adaptive response.

    Very wise.

IMO, You should not stay in low-carb (or in Ketosis) to long, and should carb up (to prevent some of the drawbacks/negatives that low-carbing) present. Personally, I do believe in carb cycling, its just a good idea (for the right person) once you read some good material on it.

If you are eating 20 to 60 grams of carbs, and weight training (I will assume at least 3 times a week-heavy)--dependent on the length of the low carb period, and levels of intensity, volume, etc, in your training......there is a good chance your glucose stores are very low (or even depleted).

When you recarb, the purpose (or one of the purposes) is to refill your glucose stores and bring you OUT of a catabolic state and back INTO an anabolic state.

So it is wise, to have a good idea of (carbs burned at weight training-or study on this, eh?), and how many approximate calories in carbs (and variances) it takes to refill the glucose stores (and tissue).

With this in mind, what is the answer?

    Best wishes

You will have a metal taste in your mouth, your breath will smell horrible, and your urine will have a strong scent also. And you might also be very thirsty.

The calculation is 65% Protein, 35% Fat, 5% Carbs. They should be no higher than 25 grams. If you calculate your protein, and calculate your carbs (and they are higher), reduce to 25 g and add whatever you need into fat grams.

If you are really interested in manipulating carbs, and want to learn (over time what works for you, you can begin by studying "carb cycling" articles by quality authors (such as Lyle McDonald, and others), and studying on your "glucose storage" (which is VERY POWERFUL when manipulated--right).

PM me with your E-Mail address......I hook ya up with a few good articles.

    Best regards,
