Monster Low-Carb

I have to leave for work at 4 AM three-four days a week. Sometimes I'm so tired I can barely keep my eyes open. Well, lately I stumbled upon the world of energy drinks. I found that Monster Low-Carbs have only 20 calories, 6g carbs, and 6g sugar in a whole can. However, they have 2500 mg of "energy blend" that includes caffeine and stuff. The problem is, I LOVE the way these things taste and they give me a perfect dose of "kick."

So, I guess nutritionally this stuff isn't too bad. However, I'm concerned about the caffeine. I would say I drink three-four of these per week. Is that too much? What are some adverse effects of these energy drinks?

Thanks for the help.

ever heard of that nut who constantly drank energy drinks everyday until he had a heart attack while he was driving? and no he wasnt an obese lard. just an average joe. i believe too much caffeine can make your heart rate fluctuate to an unhealthy rate, and since MONSTER has a crapload........

What is your diet like. You said you were tired....before....drinking the energy drink. THIS is the problem, unless there is medical condition or an addiction to caffiene or like products with it.

caffiene can cause mild addiction and if its suddenly stopped can give the feeling of decreased energy and give symptoms like, headaches, sweats, and the alike.

But, I am mostly interested in what you eating.......what going on with this? Whats with the low-carb.....version of the drink?
Why you select this version?

Man, if you had to wake up at 3 AM you would be tired too! I don't lack energy throughout the day, but I usually feel like I need a jumpstart this early in the morning.

My diet is extremely clean. I am currently bulking, and I am getting about 3200 calories a day (the breakdown is about 320g protein, 300g carbs, 70g healthy fats).

I choose Monster Low-Carb because of the nutritional content. Regular Monster has like 50g sugar and 40g carbs or something like that. Empty carbs and sugar = not achieving my goals!

*EDIT* Regular (green) Monster has 54g sugar and 54g carbs...

I'm just curious about the caffeine. I've read other posts on here where people say they drink like 2-3 of these a day. If I have 3-4 a week, is this unhealthy? That is the question...

Just a thought, but have you tried green tea? The real green tea, not that diluted down hyped up bottled stuff.

Personally, I don't care for hot tea, but do drink a cup of coffee in the mornings. So, I will sometimes add a bag of green tea to my cup of coffee and let it steep for a few minutes. It gives an extra kick, plus the health benefits of the green tea, without being an overload, and it doesn't really interfere with the taste of the coffee too much.
