Is it ok to eat a huge breakfast?

Hello Everyone,

Just a quick question. I'm on a bulking cycle and consuming on average about 3200 calories a day. I eat about 7-8 times during the day and keep the main meals (lunch and dinner) around 600 calories with snacks in between at 200. That is, all except for my breakfast which I keep at 1000 calories.

The breakfast is very clean. Usually consisting of a cup of oatmeal w/ skim milk, raisins and natty peanut butter, egg whites and a couple of slices of toast with a tomato and some veggies. I usually have a bigger appetite in the morning so I figured that this should probably be my biggest meal of the day.

My question was, is it okay to eat this much in one sitting or am I defeating the whole purpose of small, frequent meals during the day by doing this?

Any responses are greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much,
Safeboy43

You'd be better off evening out ALL your meals to roughly the same calorie intake.
Even when I'm cutting my meals are more than 200 calories. Hell most of my meals on a cut are pushing 200calories per meal just with protein, before I add carbs, veggies or fats.

the human body is essentially an organic engine. it runs better with a consistent amount of fuel, constantly being introduced. If you start running on fumes, the engine sputters. If you over fill the tank, the vehicle is heavier and has to catch up to burning all that food.

Thanks for your reply, malkore. This is what I thought. The reason why I styled my diet like this is because of my lifestyle. I am usually on the road during the day and very busy. The only times I actually have to sit down and eat a meal are in the mornings, noon and the evening. I just found it easier to throw some nuts, cereal and dry cottage cheese into a bag to have as a snack on the run. Which IMO is much easier than hauling around 400 cal meals all day.

Oh well, I suppose I'll have to be making some changes

Thanks again,
Safeboy43

I don't think there is any problem eating a huge breakfast, and you shouldn't make any changes if it's working for you.

Since you're eating something every 2.5 hours or so throughout the day anyway , and you're having a decent lunch and dinner as it is, I don't see anything wrong with having a hearty / robust breakfast of 1,000 calories.

So long as you aren't training very shortly after your breakfast - i.e not allowing adequate time for digestion - I'd say a hearty / robust breakfast is, generally speaking, a good thing.

I wouldn't make any changes at all.

West end T.O actually....close to the Oakville / Mississauga border...so it's more like west end G.T.A.

It used to be ' Monster Gym ' ( when it was called that ) out by the 427 / Dixon and then the hockey training center at York U.'s 4 rinks and then Bally's ( also, when it was called that ) for awhile located by the 403 / 400.

Now, I divide mosts of my time between working out at home, or at the Y, or at a pro conditioning center located at a 4 rink complex near me or at the fitness / rec center just up the street.
