Potatoes? good or bad?

Are potatoes alright for part of a meal? This question is about the potatoes itself without the salt, butter, sour cream and bacon bits.

Fine pre and post workout, but no other time.

The body can make use of the carbs during this time, but beyond that, the high GI of the potatos will cause too much of an insulin reponse and that insulin will store much of the glycogen as body fat.

first off.. potatoes that are baked are better than mashed, boiled or instant potatoes.. although their GI is still quite high.

if you must eat potatoes stick to sweet potatoes which are low GI

No, sweet potatos I think are fine, but Berardi doesn't have a problem with white potatos around WO time.

Normal freshly boiled potatoes is excellent food.

Now GI for potatoes differ tremendously depending on how you cook it and what kind it is, while baked potato have a high GI, boiled reheated have superslow carbs(GI 33!)

Still, I wouldn't have them outside of pre and post wo. As one guy described, it's like pre-digested starch.

I dont see where you're coming from now since boiled potatoes pretty much is the best source of carbs you can find, better than pasta, rice or corn(obviously). One of the very best "daily foods" there is and you say its bad because its starch? starch doesnt have to mean fast.

If you're trying to lose fat, white potatos are not it. There are better sources, like brown rice.

I haven't touched potatos for probably a year now.

If you want to eat them, go ahead! I'm not stopping you.

Potatoes have less calories than for example rice and yes its atleast as healthy as brown rice, so its excellent when you diet. Why would it be bad?

I'll ask this with the specification you're citing on the PN forums, but Berardi is pretty firm about it. No starchy carbs outside of the pre and post workout meals.

that'd be because starches are high concentrated suigar.. and when you mix those with the OTT grains ..like flour and rice etc.. it causes a metab and digestive slow down . If you nmormally dO nOt do alot of breads and rices and pastas etc, then potatoes are an awesome carb choice .. and pumpkin ( even as soup) or sweet potatoe good too.
It's just in my educated experienced opinion how strict you want to be.
If you want to trade some grains etc for veg and fruits, ..then yuou're bpody will ove you and you'll run clean and lose Body fat.

Remember :- complex carb + sugar ( of which starch is one )= slowed metabolism /weight gain..yaaay when it's almost all youre getting.

starch + proteins or fats etc + hot water or fruit acids = poop. = good.

fat + protein = good.

protein + sugar = good

carb + sugar = add weight

carb + fat = add weight

we following here or what:/???

sweet potatos/yams are great to eat pre-workout or mid day, white potatos only post-workout.

Rubbish. I don't really eat flour..but if I wake up and eat a nuked potatoe half with pepper pre-workout...in lieu of heaps of nesquick in my mid workout potassium fix of milk that I alt with juice and soda water then I can assure you I 'm cheering.

Considering they are an immediately available glucose / glycogen to fuel a workout, If you want to explain your reasons for saying that, please feel free.
