Regarding protein shakes with workouts.

So, I've been reading Scrawny to Brawny by Michael Mejia and John Berardi, and I've been basing my bulking plan around that. However, in the book they stress drinking 3 protein shakes around your workout. One 10-15 minutes before, one during, and one after.

I figured this would be a good way to get in some of the extra calories I need, but I've never heard this advice anywhere else, and wanted to know peoples opinions on 3 consecutive protein shakes in a workout period. Any takers?

Berardi is definitely a smart guy. i've not read that book, but I do visit his website.

i am not a hardgainer, and I'm pretty sure that book is written with the 'skinny hardgainer' in mind, so pounding down extra calories around the workout does make sense.

I wouldn't do shakes the rest of the day though...only whole foods. so you get all your fiber and vitamins, etc.
