| | What are people's thoughts on corn? I love corn, but I have heard it's not the greatest source of a veggie carb. They are pretty calorie dense though, and a cup would add in 130 cals. |

| | | Yeah, I hear ya, corn is so damn good. A whole can is 130 cals? I came up with 130 cals for a cup. Ahh well I'll look into it.
OK, my tentative changes are this. I'll be reducing my daily chicken intake from 16 ounces to 10. To make up for this, I threw in 1 tbsp of flax seeds in my breakfast shake, I'll also start having 4 grams of fish oil a day. Then a cup of corn, and a can of green beans.
I enjoy green beans, but that can only gets me 70 cals, and it is a lot of food to throw in the mix. Would it be OK just make up for the extra cals in corn alone? Thoughts? |

| | | Well, i don't know the exact figures. Fitday said one can is 300 something calories but that is entirely inaccurate because one can is about the size ( maybe a LITTLE bigger) of a cup. And 1/2 a cup is 60 calories ( according to the can ) so it couldn't be more than 130 cals. |

| | | Interesting. I just checked a can I have, and it says 100 cals for half a cup, and 3.5 servings per can, so 350 cals per can. That surely doesn't seem right. |

| | | If I need a lot of carb calories I go for brown rice, whole grain pasta or dried fruit (prunes, apricots, etc) those all pack a pretty good caloric punch.
I eat a maybe 1 slice of whole grain bread a day (I like it with natty PB as a nighttime snack) , but no more because even though I found stuff with no processed sugar or corn syrup, it is still relatively high in sodium.
And I agree with FF you might want more variety. I don't really meal plan, and I don't necessarily eat the same stuff every day. I just eat clean foods, log them in fitday and monitor and adjust as I go through the day. I eat 3700 cals right now and you have a lot of "wiggle room" that is:if you get off track early in the day ( a little too much protein, too much fat etc.) you can correct it with your next meal.
I like corn. Some dieticians consider it a grain rather than a vegetable. Don't trust the numbers fitday gives you. I figured that out when I saw some wacky stuff on there (according to them 1 cup of corn has over 600 calories, every label I've ever seen says about 120 calories). Get some frozen corn and go by the label on that. I love fitday, but I create my own custom foods about 99% of the time. |

| | | ...oh, apples and sweet potatoes (along with oats, which you already listed) are some of my other favorite carbs |

| | | I'm already eating 2 cups of brown rice a day. I might throw in some dried fruit, that's a good idea.
I have definitely seen Fitday be way way off too. I always double check the product labels and usually do custom entries as well. I suppose tonight I'll pick up a big bag of corn and use those numbers.
I eat apples regularly, but I'm not a fan of sweet potatoes... |

| | I've amassed a pretty big custom food list so if there is anything you aren't sure about I may already have it. Just PM me
I didn't like sweet potatoes much either until I started putting cinnamon and sweetener on them (I use Stevia usually) Now I've grown to really like them
Try the whole grain pasta too, that helps me if I'm bulking (believe it or not I'm cutting at 3700 cals) |

| | | Thanks for the offer man, I appreciate it. I've got a lot of custom stuff too, but I'll keep that in mind.
Holy crap, you've gotta be kidding! I am having a hard time eating 3300 calories, and this is for my bulk. You are eating 400 more and are cutting?! I can't even imagine that... |

Actually my diet used to consist of Donatos Pizza, Chipotle, and Wendy's among other garbage. The way I ate I should have weighed 400 lbs, but 227 was my highest. We used to make tacos once a week. We'd buy the 18 pack of shells...My wife and kids would have 4 and I'd have 14 LOL | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
