Is there a book I can read?

This website has a TRAMENDOUS amount of information. But I can't seem to get the hang of what I should be eating. I have been watching what I eat, so I know I'm not eating crap.. ie fast food.

I have not been able to put a time line on my goals because I don’t know what they should be. I do work out and I do watch what I eat, results are sloooow coming that way. If I understood nutrition better I could work on my diet, then I could learn what my workout should be.

I went to the Barnes and Noble website and did a search for nutrition and it came back with over 3000 fad diet books.

Can anyone recommend a good book that will really help me understand nutrition?

Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

One of my favorite books is Body for life by Bill Phillips. There is also a body for life cook book. His book is basically founded on bodybuilding principals but are made to fit the average person. I think the book is great for everyone male or female or if your goal is to gain muscle or lose fat. It is easy to understand and gives you a clear path to follow for nutrition and exercise. The cook book has some great meals that are super easy to make. But there are lots of good books out there that one is my favorite for people getting started couse it covers all the basis and it is a quick read. Just remember to take baby steps. Dont get overwhelmed. Just read as much as possible and before you know it you'll have a pretty good idea on what works for you. the big thing is motivation and determination. There is no one way, no right way. You just need to find what works for you.

Check out Muscle Chow by Gregg Avedon. It is full of stuff about how and when to eat as well as very good protein packed healthy recipes. I got it on amazon for like 12 bucks. I agree with what Voodoochild said about motivation. Eating well/healthy is a lifestyle change and it can be very hard to stick to it. If you eat well long enough the temptation will pass and you healthy lifestyle will be in full force.

I like stuff by John Berardi. He keeps it real as hell, no BS. I think he has a book called Precision Nutrition. I read it awhile back, and he makes a lot of sense in his ideas.

Dr. John Berardi's books are excellent.

I have to slam on Body For LIFE though...its not that great on nutrition. Bill Phillips makes no distinction between fiber carbs and starch/sugar carbs. Carbs is Carbs.

plus the book shoves his supplement line down your throat.

If you can afford it...get Precision Nutrition by Berardi.

I agree he does plug his supplements alot. But I disagree that he doesnt make a distenction between simple and complex carbs. He tells you to stay away from carbs like white bread and white rice and tells you to consume the following carbs:
sweet potato
squash
brown rice
oatmeal
barley
beans
fruit
whole-wheat bread

That sounds like a distiction to me.
