| | | Damn Cicadas! Anyone else living in this part of the United States where we have these cicadas? At first I thought they were kind of neat and cool looking but now I'm just annoyed with stepping all over them and having them run into me or finding them hanging out on my shoulder. When are they going back into hibernation?!

| | | Yeah, cicadas are in the mid-west. They come out every couple years or so. I remember watching the news on them and I think the guy said they will be gone in around a month. Where I live in Southern Maryland, we have these annoying horse flys. You go outside theres like 2-3 buzzing around your head. There a little bigger then flys and they bite like a damn mosquito. |

| | | Once every 17 years actually, and it happened just in 2004. It was nuts, carcasses all over the cars, you could barely see some trees there were so many swarmed on them...
Edit, I should clarify that the once every 17 years is for "Brood X" when they come out in the largest numbers by far. I'm sure most areas get some here and there every year, just not in large numbers. |

| | | Why are we idiots Matt?
Yes, the big brood (so to speak) is once every 17 years. But you will get a few here and there. Like I remember 11 years ago there was a small outbreak in Chicago. But the main one is the huge one where they are all over and are really loud. |

| | | We have cicadas in Japan every summer. To us, they are emblematic of summer.
Only a few North American species have the 13 or 17 year cycle. |

tennis racket>large flying bugs | That's the stage it's gotten too. They've run out of names and its messing up poor little kids, like PB's knowledge of the insect world. :P | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
