| | | Finnally got my liscense Took forever; my first learners expired after a year. Had to pay for another one. Then I failed the test the first time (I didn't parallel park close enough to the curb).
I was still very nervous today but my new test examiner was awesome. He used small talk to keep me from being nervous and such and I ended up passing.
Its all over; all I need now is insurance and a car. I don't envy paying for gas though..... |

| | | Some more tips:
1. Check insurance rates on candidate cars before deciding. Insurance rates can vary greatly based on the year / make / model / trim of car.
2. Keep learning as you drive.
3. Try to keep a margin of safety around you. For example, do you have enough space in front of you so that if the vehicle ahead changes lanes to unmask stopped traffic, you have enough time to stop or go around the stopped traffic? When going around a curve or over the hill, will you be able to stop if there is a stopped traffic jam just beyond?
4. Avoid surprising other road users. Signal your turns and lane changes, and avoid driving in other drivers' blind spots. |

| | Yeah, careful with insurance. Did you get your license through a certified driving "school"? Because, well, down here, that means you're insured as someone who's been driving for 3 years. Well worth the $600 or so and the 3 days of class it requires.
Also, if no one's mentioned it, it's generally a good idea to get on your parents' insurance, as that'll decrease the expense considerably. If they're willing to risk it.
And don't worry about feeling nervous at first. That's perfectly normal (see: extremely common). You'll get over it after a couple months. Then the feeling of sweet, sweet freedom will kick in. That and the hating of OPEC. Haha.
Happy trails. Oh, and congratulations.
