I totally agree.....but FWIW, Arnold always worked-out barefoot and insisted it was more natural and induced more demand on the body for stability, coordination and overall balance. But I agree that good shoes are important.

Ya know, a LOT of those dumbell racks are very particular that you place the dumbell EXACTLY in the slots. I've completed a few sets and been so beaten that a few times the dumbell almost slipped off and fell.....you really need to watch it. But if a 55-pound dumbell fell 2-feet down onto your foot, the protection of a sneaker is just marginal over being barefoot.

I deadlift bare foot, I do other stuff with shoes on though. I dropped a 30kg DB on my foot a few weeks back, it still hurts a little but if I weren't wearing shoes it would've killed me!!! (not literally of course but would've hurt a lot more). Shoes should be worn in gyms for that same reason

I would prefer to be barefoot all the time. However shoes have become part of our daily clothing requirements. Plus its sanitary reasons taht people need to wear shoes.

Take a look at how you step when barefoot compared to with shoes...its not the same.
