When running or working out, I listen to an iPod. But, like Derwyddon, I sometimes leave only one earpiece in so I can hear outside sounds/noises. When cycling, I sometimes cheat and wear one earpiece even though it is illegal.

I don't listen to music when I run. I rarely run to begin with (I know this is bad) and I don't have a device to play music while I run. I'm stuck in the ages of the cd player, and those skip when you run with them. If It were up to me, we'd still all be listening to records. This is my favorite format of music. Records sound so much better than CDs or mp3 files.

When I work out in my weight training class, the teacher always puts on music, but most if it is cheesy stuff from the 80s. Some of it is pretty good though. Occasionally he plays Pink Floyd, one of my favorite bands.

I usually listen to music when I do weights, mostly because it keeps the tempo correct. I am able to legitimately keep the correct tempo with the help of the right music. I have a few that I choose from.

That's a neat idea. I've never thought of that before.

I loathe running.

When I run I make sure I'm running fast enough to where I won't need music, because I won't EVER run long enough for a song to end.

lol so no. I don't listen to music.

Music slows you down and it interferes with your aural receptiveness, on the odd occasion I choose to run I try and do it properly which involves full attention being paid to the conditions, speed and form. If you're working hard enough you wouldn't be able to concentrate on music anyway.

For some it might not work, but for me, I tend to workout more correctly than if I just did it w/o music.

Makes sense. Makes a lot of sense, actually. I tend to think of speed when I'm getting tired. LOL Otherwise, I just try to run at a speed that I can maintain while being acutely aware of what is going on around me. LOL

I think that if you keep your music down low enough, that music can be very motivating, kinda pump you up you know. I run alot, everywhere, and my husband suggested that because i was a little uncomfortable about unknown nieghborhood, to have like a bunch of different routes you know that way you are unpredictable. Running with music is very enjoyable, i definatley suggest it!
