The pics forum finally had it sink in why this forum is missing a lot of traffic it used to have.

I'm not active and haven't been for months because I originally came on this forum to learn about fitness. A lot of conversation now just doesn't include fitness. Plus the post spam is slightly annoying (note the number of people with multi-thousand posts of 3 or 4 words).

yeah, we need to get more fitness talk over here.
What I notice, though, is that not a lot of people seem willing to discuss more complex issues than the basics, eat a lot, do compounds, that's it. Which is gread newbie advice, but I, for one, would love to discuss some more sciency stuff, even if it doesn't have the biggest application. Why are no one interested in exactly how a muscle contracts, etc? that's interesting stuff

I am afraid i will have to disagree there Woodt. You are saying that you didn't find good threads? You didn't find people willing to answer your questions? You didn't find enough stickies to cover your whole bedroom with information about fitness?
And you are telling me that the people that have multi-thousand posts, (mind you these are the most dedicated people of all to this forum, you can't have thousands of posts over a couple of months) should not be aloud to have posts of 3 or 4 words? They shouldn't say "well done keep it up" for example to someone who had a positive step closer to his/her goals? After all this is also a socialising forum, that deals with people, emotions and well-being. People that come here find one of the healthiest and most informative forums for fitness amongst other things. Sorry there mate but i think you are making a mistake.

I gotta agree with Woodt.. But I guess I already said that.
I think the high number posting can get a bit out of hand sometimes, when people obviously spam just to get a high post count.
And I think the amount of fitness related discussion have gone down.. and then I don't count all the newbies who come here looking for help, since that is usually pretty constant (which I love, always good to help someone)

I tried to phrase my point carefully without making it sound like an attack on all the high posters. They keep the forum going obviously. Karky, Chillen etc etc. There are just some guys with higher post counts with a non existant contribution:bull**** ratio. This didn't used to be the case until late last year.
On the upside people do seem to be friendlier. Don't get me wrong. It's just people quite often just want to go on a forum for information, not so much small talk. My opinion of course

Let's discuss. I should probably make this a new thread ...
After I quit track and field (in the olden days), I though "Hey, I should try bodybuilding!" So I did. After 6 months, I lost so much functional strength I couldn't do basic landscaping, nor was I able to pick up my 45kg dog without struggling.
That was also the first year I was unable to chop wood for the fireplace. I just didn't have the strength to do it. I had to wait until Xmas for my brother to do it for me and when he came over he said "Holy crap, you've lost weight. How much do you weigh? BTW, you look anorexic." (nothing like a brother to bring it all home for you ...)
I weighed 138 pounds and I really did look anorexic. My bro said "Get back in the gym and start powerlifting again. That'll put some meat on your bones."
Anyway, I was so depressed I went back into strength training in order to regain my body's "functionality". I've stuck with it ever since. I don't care if I don't have a perfect physique. It's more important for me to be able to use my body the way it was designed to be used than just "look good".
And I can still chop wood! BTW, it's a pretty good workout

Yes, you're so right
Tough to know what category to put this in. If I put it in bodybuilding, bodybuilders will hate me.
If I put it in the lounge, it's the wrong place.
Maybe weight training is the place to go
