If you must.....go Asian. The Poly looks a bit like you travelled back in time, fell asleep and some cave-men went nuts on your back. Ya know, maybe you should try a "Henna" to see if this is really your thing.
I don't mean to sound like a prick (it just happens)...but there's a few older gals in the gym with serious tat's and when you're a bit out-of-shape and in your 50's with an aging body....nothing looks more ridiculous!!!! Ya gotta live for the day but always keep in mind tomorrow........
Ya know...I respect that fact that you're willing to put this up for discussion/opinions. Shine on your crazy diamond. | well It sounds like I have all of 10 years to enjoy my tat I'm not worried about my old age and having tats, I will be ok with them, and as I said, they won't be all that visible.
Asian tats, seem to be more popular, but that doesn't make it more appealing to me, the Polynesian tats have such a great simplicity to them while creating a beautiful design..... |

It's hard to find people in the continental US who do them well. I got mine on Kauai | yeah, that has been my problem, finding someone who knows how to do them well.....*really* hard. We almost planned a trip to Moorea so I could get it done! If I go with a Polynesian one, I will have to travel.....

| | | LOL, I love the "primitive" look Polynesian and Aztec tats have.
I went to Human Rites Tattoo shop in Kalaheo, Hawaii (Island of Kauai)
It would be cool to go some place really exotic and get one too. I might do that one day |

I have been working on my tat designs (been sick with a cold) and am leaning towards a Japanese style at the moment..... |

I think his work is so clean....
However, I have been in contact with this guy: Black and Gold Tattoo Gallery
He's gonna be in my neighborhood for a few months. We have to sit down and see if he will be able to accomplish what I am looking for in the short time that he will be here. If not, I have two other artist in mind, but it will be a while before I can get in to see them.... |

| | | I think you need to sit down and really decide what you want represented from your tattoo. There's nothing I hate more (okay, not exactly that harsh) than to see a bunch of tattoos that make a bunch of lines and dots on a person and have absolutely no meaning except "I wanted a tattoo". This is coming from someone who has 6 tattoos.
There's really no reason why you can't sketch out something in your mind and decide you want it in 'such and such' style. |

There's really no reason why you can't sketch out something in your mind and decide you want it in 'such and such' style. | I appreciate your candidness. I agree, I would never have something that means nothing tattooed on me. I have two very distinct sketches drawn out, both that carry pretty much the same meanings, just minor differences in symbolism, and of course style.
I just wanted to hear what others liked and disliked, and was interested in hearing their view. Thanks for the advice...much appreciated
Cheers,

I was raised to believe that God created each of us with beautiful skin and decorated it Himself with freckles and moles. You'll never catch me with a tatoo. But I grew up in an area where the only people with tatoos were white trash. I think tatoos can be a beautiful way to create art and express an belief, but I would rather wear a T-shirt or jewelry that expressed myself instead of permant ink. A friend of mine didn't want to get a tatoo, but she really liked a certain tatoo design, so she had a tatoo artist draw it on paper and framed it. It looks beautiful as wall art, and won't fade or sag, and if she changes her mind down the road, it's not permant.
You might want to temporarly hang a couple of the different designs on a wall in your house and see which one your eye is drawn towards more to help you pick out a style. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
