The reason is to get people to think about losing fat versus the common view of losing weight. I have known people get frustrated because they did not lose weight, even though they clearly lost some excess body fat (e.g. weighed the same, but waistline got smaller). It sometimes takes a while to explain that they really should be concerned about losing the excess body fat rather than just losing weight. |
I have been posting a bit more over there lately, and it appears our sister forum is functioning just fine under its current name.
One has to be careful with the word body fat, and have to consider the "potential" of what can be lost with it in the process of losing it, and this is muscle.
Therefore, "sometimes" its more appropriate to say "loss of tissue" in my opinion, dependent on whom we are speaking about and the context of the subject matter being discussed.
Remember, body fat and muscle can be lost on deprivation diet (deficit diet), thus tissue being more appropriate.
Additionally, it is"possible" to gain muscle and lose fat (on a deficit diet--especially one NEW to weight training, though they are basically energy opposites in the deficit/surplus sense)
Best wishes
