Should the Weight Loss forum be renamed to Losing Body Fat or something like that?

Should the Weight Loss forum be renamed to Losing Body Fat or something like that?

The reason is to get people to think about losing fat versus the common view of losing weight. I have known people get frustrated because they did not lose weight, even though they clearly lost some excess body fat (e.g. weighed the same, but waistline got smaller). It sometimes takes a while to explain that they really should be concerned about losing the excess body fat rather than just losing weight.

I have been posting a bit more over there lately, and it appears our sister forum is functioning just fine under its current name.

One has to be careful with the word body fat, and have to consider the "potential" of what can be lost with it in the process of losing it, and this is muscle.

Therefore, "sometimes" its more appropriate to say "loss of tissue" in my opinion, dependent on whom we are speaking about and the context of the subject matter being discussed.

Remember, body fat and muscle can be lost on deprivation diet (deficit diet), thus tissue being more appropriate.

Additionally, it is"possible" to gain muscle and lose fat (on a deficit diet--especially one NEW to weight training, though they are basically energy opposites in the deficit/surplus sense)

Best wishes

I don't think that's necessary as weight loss commonly refers to fat loss.

Strange I was just thinking the same thing a few days ago. I think it should be changed. Simply because most people on here know they aren't trying to lose weight, they're trying to lose fat.

Does it? I have run into a number of people (in person) who seem to want to lose weight, even if it means losing or avoiding gaining muscle. This includes men as well as women, surprisingly enough.

And then there are the occasional "I want to lose weight" postings from people who are not "overweight" by orthodox measures (indeed, some are already on the borderline of being underweight). It is true that some may be "skinny fat", but the remedy for that is to gain muscle, rather than lose anything.

Note: the forum that I was referring to was Weight Loss - WorldFitness Training Forum , not the one which was its entire web site (though I guess it could apply there as well).
